A7R II's 4K support gives it a leg up on Canon's and Nikon's full-framers. During some quick tests at the rodeo, video quality came out impressively detailed at both 4K and 1080p settings, although I did notice the frame rate of the EVF's live preview struggling to keep up when recording at the higher setting. It didn't affect the actual clip, but that does seem to suggest Sony's internals are just barely able to handle the high-res movie mode.
Usual positive opinion

Photo hobbyist is someone who loves talking about pixels, software, apps, bit depths and especially loves playing with a zillion different brands of lenses on adapters. That’s why hobbyists and gizmo fans love this camera so much.
Hobbyists are completely different from photographers, photographic artists or pro shooters. The problem with the A7R II for use by a photographic artist like myself is that while A7R II images look great, its colors never look as great in real-world shots as I get directly from my Canons and Nikons. Most people are hobbyists and won’t notice the subtle things I do, and therefore I certainly recommend the A7R II, but for serious work, the Sony isn’t there yet.
New milestone review by Ken. I think it is time for Sony to stop producing this camera and head of DSC to resign.
Ken Rockwell needs only one paragraph to the next to contradict himself…

I love the guy. Most of the self proclaimed super experts who started at the same time are long gone :-)
I think Ken will be making reviews for my grandchildren.
14bit RAW firmware update must come soon (mid October)
I can safely say that it is the best autofocus system I have tried on a CSC to date. It is reliable, accurate and fast in both good and low-light conditions. The cherry on top is its AF capabilities with third-party lenses.

The Sony a7R II may not be a camera that you want, but I think it's an important camera for this reason: From this day forward — if you're anything like me — there will always be a Sony full-frame camera that you do want.
The Sony A7R II is a remarkable camera, both on paper and in practice.
The A7R II's new 42 megapixel sensor provides excellent results from ISO 50-3200 for both JPG and RAW images, with noise starting to become apparent at ISO 6400, while 12800 produces more than acceptable results, and even ISO 25600 and 51200 are OK for emergency use.
The A7R II has addressed most of its predecessor's flaws. Poor battery life, lack of touchscreen functionality, and a non-articulating screen are the main negative points that we'd hope to see addressed on the next model, but we can live without them given everything else that the A7R II has to offer.
The Nikon D810 is the a7R II's most obvious peer (same sensor size, similar pixel count), and you can see that the Sony's performance is very similar. Even after a 5EV push, it would be hard to call between the two. The a7R II is possibly a little noisier if you push all the way to 6EV, but the difference is small enough that it could be experimental error.

Wow, backward baseball cap bro dude is shockingly stupid. I actually felt myself becoming dumber watching that shootout.
Did you ever notice that? How many really stupid people you run into during the day?
Goddam there's a lot of stupid bastards walking around.
Carry a little pad and pencil with you. You'll wind up with thirty or forty names by the end of the day.
Look at it this way: Think of how stupid the average person is and then realize that half of them are stupider than that.
And it doesn't take you very long to spot one of them does it? Take you about eight seconds.
You'll be listening to some guy...you say..."this guy is fucking stupid!"
Then...then there are some people, their not stupid...their full of shit. Huh?
That doesn't take very long to spot either, does it? Take you about the same amount of time.
You'll be listening to some guy..and saying, "well, he's fairly intelligent......ahht, he's full of shit!"
Then there are some people, their not stupid, their not full of shit...their fucking nuts! :-)
