Sony Alpha a7R III Mirrorless Digital Camera., $2749
I just got curious about something and made a discovery that completely made my day!
I wondered if Sony ever fixed their garbage Smart Remote app that, among other things, disabled any picture profile that was in use (and refused to let you set one) so I updated one of my older Sony cameras to the latest version of it - still no picture profiles.
BUT then I remembered that people complain that the newer Sony bodies don't have a timelapse function since they no longer have an app store - so I checked on smartphone control and it's no longer an app, but a menu option... and when I connected PM to my A7r III, it kept the goddamn picture profile (and all of my other settings) intact! This is actually huge for vlogging and whatnot since it means I don't need to carry around my SmallHD focus when I want to see myself on the screen - just gotta' find a cheap/small hotshoe smartphone mount (or use an existing 1/4" one with a hotshoe ballhead).
I even tried recording a clip because it seemed too good to be true - but sure enough, when I check it out on the computer after, it looks exactly like the clip I shot without a smartphone connected!
Also, acting as a one-man show (or with a tiny crew) on multicam shoots, this is a game changer for me!

Woo. Sounds like a very useful update...
... for people who own a $12,000 lens.
Sounds meh for pretty much all of the rest of us. Still no time lapse? Come on.
Firmware above made to restrict use of third party batteries
... so it not only doesn't include much/any useful features, but it removes existing functionality? Maybe Sony is tired of selling cameras and wants to send some more business to CaNikon...
It seems like latest trend to hike profits.
Look at Panasonic - even made new GH2 firmware for same thing.

New v2.00 firmware
- Adds support for the SEL400F28GM and SEL24F14GM lenses
- Optimizes the optical image stabilization performance.
- For the SEL400F28GM lens only, adds support for new image stabilization mode (Mode 3) of the lens Adds the Function Ring(Lens) feature to the to the Camera Settings2 menu.
Note: For the SEL400F28GM lens only, the Function Ring(Lens) feature has a power focus function, which allows you to assign one of the following to the Function Ring(Lens): Power-assisted Focusing (Power Focus), or switching the angle of view between Full Frame and APS-C/Super 35 mm.- Adds the Aperture Drive in AF setting to the Camera Settings menu.
Note: When using either the SEL400F28GM or SEL24F14GM lens, when Silent Priority is selected, the sound emitted by the aperture drive will be reduced. - Better reproduction of the gradation of RAW pictures.
Note: Imaging Edge software needs to be updated to benefit from the improvement in the RAW processing.- Improves dimming stability under flicker light conditions.

What's PM?
Why don't any of these Sony cameras have Cinema 4K and true 24 frames per second?
Firmware v2.10
- In rare cases, the camera may stop functioning while writing RAW data onto an SD card that has already been used multiple times
Notes:
- This may also cause abnormalities in the files managing the images, preventing the images from displaying on the camera
- No image data in the memory card will be corrupted or deleted aside from the data that was being written at the time the interruption occurred
- Taking a picture while using the Auto Review function may occasionally cause the camera to stop responding
- Solves the problem caused by a specific third-party memory card, which would not be recognised by Sony cameras

@CFreak PM is PlayMemories, the Sony camera app.
@eatstoomuchjam Thanks for the heads up on this. I tried it and autofocus works great too. Detecting my face just fine.
Firmware Ver. 3.0 for α7R III and α7 III
Sony’s popular α7R III and α7 III full-frame cameras will both receive enhanced Real-time Eye AF performance with the upcoming firmware version 3.0. This will be available in AF-C mode with a simple half-press of the shutter button. Real-Time Eye AF for animals will also be available.
The cameras will also receive interval recording functionality that will allow for simple creation of time-lapse moviesv. The new feature can be set for anywhere between 1 and 60 seconds, with a total number of shots from 1 to 9999. AE tracking sensitivity can also be adjusted to “High”, “Mid” or “Low” during interval recording, allowing for reduced changes in exposure over the shooting interval.
The new system firmware update version 3.0 is scheduled in April 2019.
Sony's acclaimed a7 III and a7R III mirrorless cameras have received an exciting firmware update---Software Version 3.0--- that enhances Real-time Eye AF performance and adds Real-time Animal Eye AF and interval shooting for time lapse.
Real-time Eye AF
Software Version 3.0 brings Real-time Eye-AF to the a7R III and a7 III, an AI-driven, enhanced eye detection system that's based on the results of machine learning. Through machine learning, Sony has created a system that can detect---and focus on---the human eye even if the subject is looking down, partially blocked in the frame, turning or backlit. This feature is available in AF-C mode with a simple half-press of the shutter button.
Real-time Animal Eye AF
As with human eye recognition, Software Version 3.0 brings AI-driven animal eye detection to Sony cameras for the first time. Advanced subject recognition allows the a7 III and a7R III to detect and track animal eyes, and is the first step in a robust animal-tracking AF system.
The development of Animal Eye AF performance will continue, increasing the range of animals recognized by the system as well the system's ability to track their movement.
Interval Shooting
This new software adds a built-in interval timer that can be set for anywhere between 1 and 60 seconds, with a total number of shots from 1 to 9999. AE tracking sensitivity is available to be adjusted to "High", "Mid" or "Low" in order to reduce changes in exposure.
