Threadripper 3 fully removed from recent presentation

It seems like change is caused by strong investors advice to let Intel have their most profitable niche, as appearance of 32-64 core Threadripper chips compatible with old board can cause significant, up to 5% impact of Intel profits and they need money to cope with complete failure with 10nm process.

The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3000 series family will debut in the second half of 2019. This family will be internally known as “Castle Peak” and is stated to bring dominant leadership in the HEDT market. The family will prove to be a new watermark in performance and overall efficiency while new platform features will be introduced on the TR4 socketed motherboards to take them to the next level. We will also be looking at PCIe Gen 4.0 support on these motherboards which is already confirmed for the X570 chipset based AM4 motherboards for Ryzen 3000 series CPUs.

Considering that AMD would want to remain in a dominant position with Threadripper 3000 series, we will be looking at some spectacular amounts of multi-threaded performance numbers which would only get better with the added clock speeds thanks to the 7nm process node. The CPUs will also be getting a major core bumps but AMD would like to keep prices close to current levels.

We have confirmation that the company is preparing an absolutely monstrous 64-core/128-thread Threadripper part for launch in Q4 2019.

New platform is called X599.

This should be socket compatible with the existing TR4 motherboards and only a bios update should be needed if you already own one.

AMD plans to introduce this before the year is over because they have something else planned for CES next year. You should start seeing motherboard leaks related to the X599 (or whatever it ends up being called) during Q4 2019 and the CPUs should be on the shelves at the very latest by January 2020; although this is a worst case scenario and the plan right now is to ship by mid-Q4 2019.

AMD is planning to surprise Intel by unveiling its 3rd generation Ryzen Threadripper HEDT (high-end desktop) processor lineup around the same time Intel launches its 10th generation Core "Cascade Lake-X" processor and the "Glacial Falls" HEDT platform, according to sources in the motherboard industry, speaking with DigiTimes.

The 3rd generation Ryzen Threadripper will likely be a derivative of the company's "Rome" multi-chip module, and compatible with existing socket TR4 motherboards with a BIOS update, although a new chipset could also be launched to enable PCI-Express gen 4.0.

We confirmed that ASUS is preparing ZENITH II EXTREME. As you might remember, the ZENITH (I) is based on X399 chipset. That said, the ZENITH II should adopt X599. Just in time for new Threadripper 3000 series.

Current rumors are that we will see 3 different versions of same chipset with names - TRX40, TRX80 and WRX80.

Asus plans to make ASUS PRIME TRX40-PRO and ASUS ROG STRIX TRX40-E GAMING at least, according to leaked info.

Main idea is to maximally segment and rise the prices on HEDT motherboards.

• TRX40 chipset motherboards are supposed to have only 4 memory slots and half of PCIe lines won't be used.
• TRX80 chipset motherboards will have all 8 memory slots but PCIe and M.2 will be still limited.
• WRX80 will be equivalent of x399 for features, but with PCIe 4.0 and more chipset lines.

Expect for new motherboards with WRX80 to be around $999 mark (triple of current x399 prices!).

Rumors in the industry chats that AMD already set absolute record of profitability (per each CPU and chipset) in the industry in last 15 years. And this is still with bad TSMC 7nm yields. In early 2020 margins are expected to double.
