  • Looks like a really good LED fresnel light. Has anybody received one of these yet?

  • @Pechente

Has anybody received one of these yet?

PV got this lights for test. Must post initial overview video soon.

All objective detailed tests will be posted later.

For now can say that they do not flicker (I mean not visual opinion, but measurements).

I do not like much current 55w construction as they made it from 30w light and cut the heatsink.

  • PV Lab report, Part 1, AC Consumption

    30W Fresnel AC consumption

    34.1 Watt at maximum setting
    7.2 Watt at minimum setting

    Power Factor - 0.55

    55W Fresnel AC consumption

    51,3 Watt at maximum setting
    11,2 Watt at minimum setting
    Power factor - 0.55

Note - fresnels normally are rated by actual maximum DC consumption. AC consumption also includes losses in AC-DC power brick and losses in driver circuit.

  • Our initial overview video

    Sorry for some delays.

Next coming lab reports with spectrum and thermal measurements and some more thermal photos.

  • Looks good. Can be my next light.

  • I recently bought the 55w version. Light ouput is great, unit is tiny, so versatility is great, though hugely lacking in build quality unfortunately - though at this price, that should be no surprise. Picked up the Bowens adapter, which was badly bent out of shape when receiving from CameTV, so I spent some time reshaping it. Attached it, and even with just the adapter, no light modifier yet attached, the light has some trouble staying put. Most of the weight of the light light is forward of the yoke. Even if you do make a counterweight so that you can attach a softbox (even something light like a square 2' x 2') the front focusing mechanism / light barrel will start to bend forward and looks like it could crack easily, as it's moslty plastic. Iam currently in the process of designing/fabricating a basic bracket that the light attaches to with a seperate mount for modifier. For now I am using this in combination with a reflector to soften the output.

One more note, mine came coated in machine grease, and even after a good wipe down, the first few times I adjusted focus, the grease/oil would work it's way out from between the sliding pieces (focusing barrel) and would make a mess over fresnel lens and rubber gasket. After a bit of use and cleaning, there appears to be no more grease coming out, but the light, and the case it came in still stink like a machine shop.

  • I was thinking about perhaps modifying the Bracket with Arri Rosettes to keep things in place. It's just an idea for now but maybe someone can look into that or suggest it to CAME-TV.

I agree here. Front metal part is good. But plastic rear is cheap feel and not so good design.

One thing I am curious is who got any idea to put grease in light. All our test lights are free from it.

  • On the 30 watt version from the video was no grease at all and the Bowens adapter was Not bend at all.

  • Thats all good version 2 will be great. Cant wait ;)

They already made this up, but it is not included by default

  • PV Lab report, Part 2, DC Consumption of 30W Boltzen Led Fresnel

    Sony NP battery

    • 100% brightness consumption at 7.40v is 31,4 watt (4.24A)
    • 50% brightness consumption is 16,6 watt
    • 10% brightness consumption is 6,8 watt
    • minimum brightness consumption is 3,42 watt
    • minimal battery voltage that keep same 100% brightness - around 6.3v
    • cutoff battery voltage - around 5.5v
    • remember to remove battery between shoots, as it can drain battery even in off state!

    For reference

    • NP-F970 battery is rated 7900Mah at 7.4v, 58,5Wh
    • NP-F770 battery is rated 5000Mah at 7.4v, 37,0Wh
    • NP-F550 battery is rated 2900Mah at 7.4v, 21,5Wh

So, it is good idea to use F970.

    Large batteries connector

    • 100% brightness consumption at 14.50v is 31,2 watt (2.15A)
    • cutoff voltage is same 5.5v
    • minimal battery voltage that keep same 100% brightness - around 8.3v
    • while it has 7.5v written it can start with flicker on such voltage
    • use proper batteries with at least 12v voltage for this connection
  • PV Lab report, Part 3, DC Consumption of 55W Boltzen Led Fresnel

    Sony NP battery

    • 100% brightness consumption at 7.40v is 50,54 watt (6.84A)
    • 50% brightness consumption is 26,9 watt
    • 10% brightness consumption is 6,7 watt
    • minimum brightness consumption is 3,92 watt
    • minimal battery voltage that keep same 100% brightness - around 6.5v

  • Hi guys how do this compare with regular tungsten bulbs light. 55watt is equivalente to 500W or 650W? And de 30watt is equivalent to 250W or 350W?

Does it have any green magenta cast?

    Thanks

You want to compare without understanding.

    Check http://www.personal-view.com/faqs/laboratory/measuring-lights-faq

For any real task you want to compare illuminance.

And bare bulbs are not normally used in shooting, except the similar rare case of inside chinese lanterns.

Does it have any green magenta cast?

I'll post extremely detailed answer to this, just wait a little. :-)

  • Very interesting videos.

  • "We'll publish our own measurements soon" can't wait.

  • @konjow

Sorry for delays, first test items are always hard.

  • I want to get set of them. Considering Im waiting good fow years for reasonable price/quality for fresnel led, I have feeling it is worth wait bit more for upgraded version. Especially Came needs few versions to get it right.

  • @konjow

    I agree with you.

Actually it is enough to just check DC report to understand that you need two Sony batteries mounts for such thing.
