RigWheels Portable Dolly / Slider Wheels are a simple and sleek way to add motion to your images utilizing the support equipment that you may already own. Because RigWheels can mount directly to your camera rig or other support platform with one bolt, they are the easiest and most portable way for you to add smooth camera movement to your arsenal. RigWheels along with any nearby piece of pipe, glass, plexiglass, laminate, track or other smooth surface can give you the same seamless smooth motion.
In my opinion the "right weels" for sliders should not be aimed to have low friction like it is shown by everybody. They should include a set of rotary dampers. That would reduce the possibility of "stick slip" behavior and result in the ability of a smooth slow movement.
"Low friction" does not prevent "Stick-Slip" at slow movements.
You used wheel based sliders in practice? Low friction in wheel based things prevent stick-slip, and I think that you base your opinion on friction based sliders. Especially cheap ones like Zaza.
i don´t think you should buy those, those are only fancy door wheels:
(the following links do not display the exact same model, but i have one that looks pretty much the same with steel bearing and steel wheel, i´m pretty sure that you could find the same model on a local store)
You are right, a lot of sliders like a Zaza can give you a headache.
I only want to say that a constuction would be more handy if the linear movement would work like the radial movement of a tripod fluid head. And that especially if you want to keep a low weight on the sliding board.
You need in addition a damping system to make it easier to start and stop smoothly especially for light systems.
In the videos on their website, the bearings seem very loud. I would think you'd only be able to shoot MOS with these kind of wheels. Dolly wheels based on skateboard trucks are quieter.
