I have recently purchased one of those eBay E27 bulb-holders that fit onto your light stand and also hold an umbrella. The sellers of these bulb-bolder have no clue what's the maximum wattage bulb you can fit into this.
Typically, these bulb holders are made to hold big fluorescent bulbs with an umbrella or a softbox.
They fit the standard E27 (ES) screw bulbs. So I'm wondering what other bulb options do we have with these bulb-holders? For example, I'm thinking of putting a 120W PAR38 bulb into it in order to achieve a very "spot" kinda light (for backlight). Another good use would be to use an ordinary bulb with some black foil. But then what wattage bulbs can fit to these?
So I'm wondering what other uses these bulb-holders have?
I have these http://www.hypop.com.au/continuous-lighting/individual-products/single-light-holder-e27-base-by-hypop.html
I use 125W flourescent.
My past experience with tungsten, is that things start to melt at about 150 watts with domestic style/quality fittings.
@kavadni and @svart thanks for the advice. Yes it is plastic. Here's the E27 Bulb Holder that I purchased for £6.99 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270998065299 (I don't know why it says £106.99 now).
I originally wanted to use it with a 300W bulb like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220997059375 , but after your advices, I think I'll drop that idea. The thing is, I quite like the light that the usual tangsten naked bulb gives out. It looks very natural on skin tones and the shadows that it creates are very sharp (good for neo-noir style). I like the simplicity of it.
The usual use for these plastic bulb holders is to put fluorescent bulb and a softbox or umbrella with it. But I want to create a nice narrow directional spotlight with it for the kicker (backlight) with tangsten or LED (probably by adding a metal tube or black foil around the bulb). Here are my options:
PAR 38 120W SPOT ES E27 CONCENTRIC LAMP http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300568014595
PAR 38 120W Spot bulb with some sort of "diffused" matte front http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320800317088
PAR 38 120W spot bulb with some kind of granulated/halogen casing http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300665316540
E27 PAR38 LED High Power Spot Home Light Bulb Lamp 7W (216 LEDs Color temperature: approx. 5000K Luminous flux: approx. 1500LM) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320939413502
Can you help me decide? or maybe suggest a better alternative for putting these bulb holders to a good use?
Search for Par 38 Can .. very common with DJ's and stage http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/American-DJ-PAR38BL-AMDJ-Black-Par-38-Can-/120451408723?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c0b76a353
And add something like this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=orderHistory&A=details&Q=&sku=546494&is=REG
You'll need gloves :)
So I have these Chinese 4 x E27 bulb holders and I have used Chinese "150W" fluorescent bulbs with them.
The color of the light is not great. I would like to get lights with better CRI value.
I was wondering that LED technology is advancing, so is there quality high CRI LED E27 bulbs with at least 1000 lumen? I would prefer 3000 lumen though.
Tried to google it but it seems that high CRI E27 bulbs are below 500 lumen, like these ones are just 420 lumen: http://store.yujiintl.com/collections/high-cri-led-lights/products/bc-series-remote-phosphor-bulb
