It's looking great, and Blender is having a huge improvement as an Open Source VFX pipeline. I'm sure lots of small and independent studios will consider it in the upcoming years :)
Cycles renderer, Bullet Physiscs integration, particles, fluids and somke simulations, tile-based OpenCL/CUDA powered node compositor, chroma key tools, roto masks editor, and the list goes on!
