Those are both fantastic books. Film Directing Shot By Shot is another nice one.
Cinematographer's "Encyclopedia" Daniel Arijon's Grammaire du langage filmé is a fantastic reference for a beginner - yet, like a tripod, you'll use it all your life!
For example, new cinematographers have lots of trouble learning not to cross the line. Later (see pic), how to shoot two lines of motion and avoid confusing the viewer.
Written in English but at first published only in French, the French version is the best-written. I think it might have been re-translated back to poor English. In any case, the fantastic cartoon/storyboard style illustrations help you through awkward filming situations (such as how to shoot a narrative film of a group of people talking around a table).
