  • What lenses do they expect someone who would buy a 1499$ L mount camera to use? As far as I knew there was no affordable glass in the system.

  • @Firworks

They will have few cheap lenses, do not worry.

Relatively cheap ones, plus Sigma lenses coming.

  • having a cheaper sensor at the same time the S1 price is dropping like a rock will not be something people will go for in terms of less dynamic range. Cell phones are at the lower end and this same problem killed most entry level DSLR's in the first place. They need to wake up.

  • Panasonic’s full-size mirrorless camera “LUMIX S5 Body” and “LUMIX S5 20-60mm lens kit” have just been registered at overseas retailers.

  • So.... for what is this camera? I meant, if gh6 comes out, is this for selling all s1h, and s1 LSI and equipment that won’t be used?

  • I guess this camera will replace the G9. In the m4/3 we will see only rf styled cameras (GX line) and specialized video oriented one, like next GH6, if it will debut ever...

  • Panasonic will announce the new S5 entry level Full Frame camera during the first week of September.

    @Firworks

In my case, I only use vintage glass with an adapter. Since the autofocus is terrible on Panasonic, the S5 is actually an excellent cheap cine camera since most film makers don't use autofocus anyway.

So the S5 can maybe be a full frame G9 or a full frame G85. With vintage glass, it can possibly be an excellent cine camera but I will wait for the official announcement.

A GH6 with dual native ISO and a BSI sensor would be a better announcement, but since Panasonic is not taking any risks during the pandemic, we just have to accept new iterations of the same old tech. Which is ok with me if they are making it affordable.

  • Panasonic is pleased to announce that they will hold an online launch event for the new full-frame mirrorless camera LUMIX S5. It will be unveiled at www.panasonic.com/global/consumer/lumix/s/s5.html on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at 10:00 EDT. Panasonic is committed to meeting the passionate demands of all creators through its LUMIX brand, and the new LUMIX S5 is one of the embodiments of this commitment.

More information will be added and updated at www.panasonic.com/global/consumer/lumix/s/s5.html and the official Instagram account @lumixwww.instagram.com/lumix/ ) on September 2, 2020.

  • The AF better works on par with other systems, 'cause otherwise a lot of users will start planning to change gear, I think. And if Panny does not prove(!) it's commitment to MFT by at least opening a window to the GH6's future (if that exists), again a lot of users will start rethinking their road ahead. After they launched a so-called dedicated 'VLOG-camera' without Ibis, it's difficult not to lose confidence in them.

  • Doesn't seem significant enough to be separated from the S1...so it's just a price issue difference with the S1?

  • LUMIX S5 full-frame mirrorless camera is designed especially for content creators. Latest advances in image resolution, image stabilization, and autofocus all in this compact camera that is the signature of LUMIX. Experience extraordinary video recording in 4K 60p, 4:2:2 10-bit. With 24.2MP 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor, the LUMIX S5 boasts a wide dynamic range and high sensitivity performance. The adopted Dual Native ISO technology enables the LUMIX S5 to record maximum ISO 51200 crystal-clear high sensitivity video. Dual Native ISO minimizes noise in high sensitivity. V-Log/V-Gamut compatibility offers a 14+ stop dynamic range to sensitivity. V-Log/V-Gamut compatibility offers a 14+ stop dynamic range to capture every detail.

The improved autofocus detects head as well as eyes, face and body. The powerful Dual Image Stabilization with 5-axis enables 6.5-stop slower shutter speed.

The compact nature of the S5 is one of the signature features of the LUMIX series. To make sure that your camera withstands tough field use, the S5 comes with a dust and splash resistant construction. Optimized heat dispersion ensures a stable, continuous video recording without interruption.

One of the expanded features of LUMIX S5 is the Live View Composite mode which instantly creates a stunning image out of several live shots; the shutter releases at designated intervals of exposure time to merge the bright parts into a single image. Useful for shooting fireworks or a starry sky.

The Panasonic S5 will be priced at$1997.99 and $2297.99 with the kit lens

Inside Panasonic $999 price had been discussed.

It seems like we have compromise, similar to Sony VLOG camera. Set high prices to sweep money from idiots.

An drop price by half during sales season.

How this relates to Panasonic S5?

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev Sorry. Forgot to add. Did that now. On September 2 Panasonic will announce the new S5 L-mount full frame camera. This one will feature a new battery named “DMW-BLK22”. The new battery “DMW-BLK22” is compatible with GH5/GH5S/G9 in addition to S5. The prices currently listed are $89 for the DMW-BLK22

    $89 for the DMW-BLK22

Price is nice. It is best to have authors of this price policy, to find them nice place on the revolutionary tree in proper time.

  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev Apparently from Nokishita.

  • @Roedie

I mean here authors among Panasonic management.

  • Any info on 4K60 being cropped or full frame?

  • Seems to be the camera to hack after all this years isnt vitaliy?

    Vitaliy: I’m afraid.

Don’t worry we will protect you!

  • @Xeoncide38

Answer to your question you can find in 6th post in video specs.

  • S5 and S1 both have very similar specifications. S1 is selling for 2000 usd with free VLog. So what is the reason to launch a new camera with similar specs for the same price? It would make sense if the new camera could have a lower price...
