Apple Inside: Panic, yes, again. This time Apple plans to leave China.

    Teams working on AMD based notebooks had new urgent meetings. Yes, AMD notebook teams grow faster in size than original ARM models, as Apple top management are not sure in their own decisions.

    So, back to meeting. Teams must redo all BOMs and rework all logistics planning considering that China won't take part in assembly process. All chinese components must be replaced or removed from boards, BOE screens that had been planned initially must be replaced to something else (hard task with LG and Samsung leaving LCD panels market).

    In short - people had been told to prepare that Apple will fully leave China within next 6-12 months, but can be sooner. I have no data about iPhone teams, but I am sure top management also plan for similar sceneries.

    will never happen, short of a shooting war. That's where the supply chain is. Taiwan can't handle their volume, Vietnam can't handle their volume, even if they had the supply chain, which they don't.

    Just rewing to March 2019 from now and you will understand that present situation will be also deemed impossible.

    Most people also do not understand that China is not participating in trade war (as most US businesses think), this guys want UK and US to pay 10x of price China paid during opium wars.

    Apple seems to be looking to build a supply chain consisting of China-based makers for iPhones specifically for the Chinese market.

    This is nice attempt to make it harder to authorities to make final decision.

    This time round, China's response to Trump's order for ByteDance to divest its Tik Tok business in the US was swift. Within days, Apple removed more than 30,000 apps including 26,600 games from the Chinese app store. For years now, Beijing turned a blind eye to Apple putting games in its Chinese app store without approval. Such approval is required of games developed by domestic firms including Tencent. China's preferential treatment of Apple wasn't appreciated in Washington. Instead, the favour was returned with a nasty threat to ban Tik Tok in the US.

    This is only the first shot fired across the bow. More to come if ByteDance is forced to sell Tik Tok for a song to Microsoft. LinkedIn and Bing search engine, both owned by Microsoft, are popular in China. They could be the first casualties of the app war between Beijing and Washington. Other targets include CISCO servers used by many big banks in China. They can be replaced by cheaper and better Huawei's Taishan servers. Trump's Art of the Deal should be renamed Art of Boomerang!

    Apple Takes Down Over 30,000 Apps from China Store Amid Government Crackdown

    Apple kicked more than 30,000 apps off its Chinese App Store on Saturday, including over 26,600 games, possibly in response to a Chinese policy requiring paid games or games offering in-app purchases to obtain a government license before publication, according to statistics provided by research firm Qimai.

    The crackdown puts an end to the previous practice of allowing developers to sell games on the Chinese App Store while they were awaiting government approval, as Chinese regulators tighten their grip on apps which they deem could be used to spread “sensitive” content and the government increases efforts to combat gaming addiction.
