As the Sigma Art 50/1.4 DG HSM is designed to be used on DSLRs from Canon, Nikon and Sony, here it will be a very attractive choice outperforming the previously available selection from the camera manufacturers.

The 50mm f1.4 ART delivers very good to excellent image quality across the board, even when mounted on a 36MP full-frame body with the aperture opened to f1.4. Its performance matches or even surpasses the performance of Canon's or Nikon's best standard lenses.

This lens is now available in SA-mount, too - opening up the exciting possibility of a combination with the Sigma SD1 (Foveon) camera.
Well, I consider those cameras interesting only for IR photography. Other than that: too far behind the leaders in IQ.

Extracting lots of detail and texture, and showing the sweet spot of a full-frame lens by virtue of its APS-C size, the Foveon sensor can be expected to make Sigma’s latest Art lens sing − and vice versa. ...
I have to say that when I see the tremendous “pop” of the Sigma DP3 Merrill and its 50mm lens wide open at f/2.8, I’m left wanting more f/1.4 images.
Sigma are nothing if not consistent in the new Art series, a consistency that has me very excited and confident in any of the other rumored lenses coming down the pipe.
This 50mm just about has it all. It focuses very quickly and is deadly accurate, the bokeh is creamy, comatic aberration or even ghosting are a non-factor and the contrast is near perfect.
