Insta360 Announces 8K Professional 3D VR Camera at CES
Insta360 Pro Raises Bar For Professional VR Imaging and Gives Creators Unique High-Performance Tool for Immersive 360-degree 3D Content
Las Vegas, January 5 – Insta360, the world’s leading manufacturer of creative 360-degree cameras, and winner of the CES 2017 Innovation Honoree award for the Insta360 Nano, today announces the launch of its ground-breaking Insta360 Pro professional VR 3D camera at CES 2017.
The standalone camera raises the bar for professional VR imaging with 8K resolution, 3D image and video capturing, and immersive livestreaming capabilities.
Advanced VR Imaging for Professionals
Insta360 Pro offers a powerful VR imaging system for professional photo and video creators as well as non-professionals who demand excellence from the camera they use to pursue their creative visions.
Insta360 Pro captures up to 8K 360-degree videos and leverages 6 independent, high-definition lenses. It captures 60-megapixel 360-degree 3D stills and supports both HDR and RAW formats to bring out levels of detail and low-light performance unprecedented in a 360-degree camera of this size. When recording 4K video, the camera supports up to 100fps.
In addition, the VR time-lapse mode adds a new dimension to videos and the live preview function allows users to get the best angle before shooting.
High Performance Real-Time Image Stitching
Insta360’s world-class real-time image stitching technology allows 360-degree video in up to 4K and offers both H.264 and H.265 video compression, which substantially improves video quality at the same bit rate. Higher definition image files can be easily auto-stitched with Insta360 Studio.
3D Images and Videos
Insta360 is enhancing the imaging potential of the Insta360 Pro by offering professional 3D 360-degree video by applying the same 3D video capturing capabilities as Hollywood films. Able to capture 3D videos in up to 6K (4K in real-time stitching mode), it presents an exciting, new form for professional photographers.
360 Live-Broadcasting
Insta360 Pro can easily live-stream 4K video to any 360-degree live streaming platform and gives creators a new immersive way to share their visual masterpieces. As a standalone camera, it can be used with both the dedicated Insta360 Pro iOS and Android apps and connects via WiFi, Ethernet or 4G, ready to livestream any event or share instantly on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
“Insta360's most advanced technology comes together in the Insta360 Pro, the most powerful, all-in-one VR and 3D content capturing platform that empowers you to create the unforgettable. Never before has such power been put into an easy-to-use, compact system that enables users to share their VR content live with international audiences.” said Liu Jingkang, Insta360 CEO and founder.
Price and Availability
The Insta360 Pro's RRP is set to be around $3000 and will be available on Amazon and Insta360’s official online store later this year.
Exclusive Live Demonstrations at CES
There will be live demonstrations and opportunities to get hands-on experience with the Insta360 Pro and to speak directly with the Insta360 team at CES 2017. The Insta360 booth will also display and demo the Insta360 Nano, a livestreaming clip-on iPhone camera, which won the prestigious CES Innovation Honoree Award in the Virtual Reality category. The Android version of the Insta360 Nano, the Insta360 Air will also be on display. Insta360’s booth at CES 2017 is 26608 in South Hall 2 LVCC in the Gaming & Virtual Reality Marketplace.
Leading 360 camera maker Insta360 kicked off preorders today for the Insta360 Pro, a six-lens professional camera that will empower creators to capture stunning 8K VR experiences and broadcast to the world live in immersive 360.
Bringing together best-in-class 360 and 360 3D imaging, a seamless live-streaming experience, and advanced real-time image stitching technology in one compact device, the Insta360 Pro represents a leap forward for VR filmmaking.
“The VR industry needs steady content from a strong base of creators to keep growing, but before now, high-performing cameras have been overly complicated or cost-prohibitive,” said JK Liu, founder and CEO Insta360. “With the Insta360 Pro, we’re giving broadcasters and creators the tool they’ve been asking for. We can’t wait to see what they come up with.”
Offering extraordinary value for $3,499 USD, the Insta360 Pro is set to enable pioneering VR filmmakers and broadcasters around the world to explore the full potential of the evolving form.
Built for Pro VR Filmmakers
The Insta360 Pro’s watchwords are versatility and ease-of-use. Suited for everything from live 360 journalism to aerial videography, it’s designed to be an all-in-one tool for professional VR creators.
Using six 200° lenses, the Pro captures photos and video in transporting 8K 360. Creators can leverage the Pro’s onboard real-time stitching technology to capture finished 360 videos that don’t require any post-processing, or else opt for fine-grained control with Insta360’s included post-processing software or a third-party solution of their choice.
Time-lapse mode and 100 fps high-speed shooting (for 4K slow-mo) offer new ways to captivate an audience, while real-time preview on phones, laptops or headsets means creators can get the shot they want the first time.
Photos, Video and Live-streams Brought to Life in 3D
The Insta360 Pro shoots photos, video and live broadcasts in stereoscopic (3D) 360, a feature unheard of in the price range.
8K 3D photos, 6K 3D video, and 4K 3D live-streaming means filmmakers can achieve truly immersive depth and detail.
Live 360 Made Simple
With a state-of-the-art real-time image stitching algorithm and a versatile range of connectivity options – including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, HDMI and 4G —the Pro makes 360 live broadcasting easier than ever.
Users can input an RTMP address and use the Pro’s onboard processor to live-stream directly, with no intermediate server necessary.
Meanwhile, using an H.265 compression standard and cube map projection, the Pro cuts normal bandwidth needs by 60 percent.
Ready to Move
Weighing just over 2.7 pounds (1.2 kg) and sporting a removable battery, the Pro is ideal for going out on location.
Its lightweight design also lends it to drone-mounted aerial videography, and with the addition of a 4G network card, creators will be able to live-stream from anywhere with a signal.

Looks like first serious 360º camera under $5K... (and actually more like $10k if you count RAW, and the rig you would need for that and other solutions)
And under serious I understand more or less working from the box and available from reputable company.
We still hope to get one for all exhibitions coverages.
To explain 'serious':
UPDATE
Looks like to capture RAW we will need to use USB3 SSD. Glad we don't need CFast.
Initial review and samples
Using on 360 degrees gimbal
Insta360 is working on a new Super Resolution mode that would increase the photo resolution by 4 times with firmware update At 4 times higher resolution, the photos would have a resolution of 118 megapixels in 2D (15,360 x 7,680) or 236 megapixels in 3D (15,360 x 15,360). At 15K, this would be the highest 3D 360 photo resolution for an all-in-one 360 camera. The 2D resolution would be around 12% less than Panono’s resolution (16,384 x 8,192) but would still be one of the highest resolutions available for an all-in-one 360 camera
Philip Bloom likes it:
Now for the first time I have used a 360 camera that I feel I could use professionally and that is the new Insta360 Pro. I took it on my holiday to Skiathos in Greece for a couple of weeks to see what is is capable of.
The 8K for me was really exciting. You may think 4K is enough, well for normal video sure but the amount you crop in on a 4K 360 shot video when you watch it on Youtube or through a headset can be huge. You could just be seeing 20% of the image so the quality loss even from a 4K image is massive.

The Insta360 pro isn’t perfect. The sensors are too small so low light isn’t the best and it is prone to overheating if you turn off the (noisy) fan. I also think it really needs better coverage of the bottom and top as you get a real pincushion effect due to there not being any cameras in that position but at this price there isn’t anything that competes. In normal light the 8K image is excellent.
