The standalone camera raises the bar for professional VR imaging with 8K resolution, 3D image and video capturing, and immersive livestreaming capabilities.

Advanced VR Imaging for Professionals

Insta360 Pro offers a powerful VR imaging system for professional photo and video creators as well as non-professionals who demand excellence from the camera they use to pursue their creative visions.

Insta360 Pro captures up to 8K 360-degree videos and leverages 6 independent, high-definition lenses. It captures 60-megapixel 360-degree 3D stills and supports both HDR and RAW formats to bring out levels of detail and low-light performance unprecedented in a 360-degree camera of this size. When recording 4K video, the camera supports up to 100fps.

In addition, the VR time-lapse mode adds a new dimension to videos and the live preview function allows users to get the best angle before shooting.

High Performance Real-Time Image Stitching

Insta360’s world-class real-time image stitching technology allows 360-degree video in up to 4K and offers both H.264 and H.265 video compression, which substantially improves video quality at the same bit rate. Higher definition image files can be easily auto-stitched with Insta360 Studio.

3D Images and Videos

Price and Availability

The Insta360 Pro's RRP is set to be around $3000 and will be available on Amazon and Insta360’s official online store later this year.

Exclusive Live Demonstrations at CES

There will be live demonstrations and opportunities to get hands-on experience with the Insta360 Pro and to speak directly with the Insta360 team at CES 2017. The Insta360 booth will also display and demo the Insta360 Nano, a livestreaming clip-on iPhone camera, which won the prestigious CES Innovation Honoree Award in the Virtual Reality category. Looks like first serious 360º camera under $5K... (and actually more like $10k if you count RAW, and the rig you would need for that and other solutions)

To explain 'serious':

• Turn key solution working 'out of box'
• RAW capture (due to increased DR of 360º capture requirements)
• No external HDMI / SDI recording interfaces needed
• Mono / Stereo 360º capture ability
• Stitching in camera and also non-stitched files available
• Small size
• Cameras very close to each other to reduce parallax issues (yet wide enough to generate 3D 360º)
• Streaming capable
• Good resolution for 360º (4k is 360º worlds SD)

UPDATE

Looks like to capture RAW we will need to use USB3 SSD. Glad we don't need CFast.

Now for the first time I have used a 360 camera that I feel I could use professionally and that is the new Insta360 Pro. I took it on my holiday to Skiathos in Greece for a couple of weeks to see what is is capable of.

The 8K for me was really exciting. You may think 4K is enough, well for normal video sure but the amount you crop in on a 4K 360 shot video when you watch it on Youtube or through a headset can be huge. You could just be seeing 20% of the image so the quality loss even from a 4K image is massive.

The Insta360 pro isn’t perfect. The sensors are too small so low light isn’t the best and it is prone to overheating if you turn off the (noisy) fan. I also think it really needs better coverage of the bottom and top as you get a real pincushion effect due to there not being any cameras in that position but at this price there isn’t anything that competes. In normal light the 8K image is excellent.
