Specs
The new EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM kit lens is an ideal lens to get started with and complements an all-rounder DSLR with the capability to shoot a wide range of pictures, from landscape to portraits. The smallest in its class, the lens is packed with a 4-stop Image Stabilizer for steady low-light or full zoom shots, 7 blade circular aperture for pleasing background blur in portraits. For video scenes Servo AF with near-silent STM is perfect for focusing without distracting noise.
"The smallest in its class"
Nikon's is shorter and a hair wider. It's also 1/3 stop faster at the wide end. 4-stop IS is interesting, though. If it's a sharp as Nikon's and can resist flare well enough, might pick it up for a daily driver video lens.
Review
Resolution across the image frame will not meet the expectations of serious photographers who want edge-to-edge sharpness. Indeed, even central zone sharpness will be below par at ISO settings higher than 1600, regardless of how accurately the subject is focused.
