Hey everyone! What do you guys recommend as a good external hard drive for editing videos on a late 2012 iMac with a 2.7 GHz intel core i5 processor using FCPX? I have been making videos for a while now and I've been looking at getting an external to make editing faster and less taxing on my computer. However, every higher end hard drive I have come across has had mixed reviews and I can't seem to make up my mind. I currently do short films which are shot on the GH2 with Sanity X on it. I may try different hacks such as driftwood and flowmotion later on. My films usually range from 2-10min long so nothing too big. I'm mainly looking for speed as opposed to storage and it would be amazing if I could find one for under $150 as I am hoping to get a new lens also :D. Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Look at the Turo drives. They're 7200rpm, USB 3 and affordable
If you don't require portable drive, USB 3.0 docking stations. Plug in 3.5", 2.5" hard drives or SSD.

Awesome, thanks guys! I just remembered I purchased a WD elements external couple years ago for storage, I believe it's this one: https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Portable-External-Drive-WDBPCK0010BBK-NESN/dp/B0052L77SA/ref=sr_1_7?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483895627&sr=1-7&keywords=wd+elements+1tb+hard+drive
do you think this would suffice for my video editing needs or do I need something faster?
Depends on how much video tracks you will use, I can do a four track proress 422 PremierePro multicam edit with an external drive like that, pretty smooth.
Great! thank you! I'll give it a go and see if it works well :D
