Hey community! I figured I'd start a simple topic to discuss all things regarding the 3DR Solo and a place to showcase your work with it. The copter has been an amazing tool for our studio, but would like to see how you are putting it to good use. Feel free to ask questions, strike up conversation, talk about modem and even show some of your work with the aircraft! We look forward to chatting with you more about the SOLO :)
General thread rule: Please post any and all things pertaining to the 3DR Solo only please!
Here is our most recent technical demonstration with the SOLO.

I am going to update this topic as the 3DR Solo + Gimbal go on sale often for 350$ which is a steal. There is a gotcha as 3DR may not be supporting this combo anymore. However, as you will see in later posts, this is the cheapest setup that can be adapter to non GoPro cameras. Essentially they are only focusing on software now, perhaps thats why this outstanding drone is so cheap.
The Sony X1000v and X3000 can be easily mounted in place of the GoPro. Cut a piece of polyfoam/polystyrene in the dimensions of the GoPro. Cut it into 2 pieces and chisel off some from the center. Now place the Sony inside the 2 foam pieces and it should just lock into place inside the GoPro holder.
The open design of the Solo allows for other camera adapters.

> Tried out my Panasonic lumix DMC-G7 m43 (great camera BTW) on my new solo the other day. The G7 with 14mm pancake lens weighs 410g - HDMI output works with solo app - The G7 itself has wifi - so you would need two android / iOS devices one to control the solo - the other to run the lumix app to remotely trigger the shutter / video. the G7 shoots RAW / 4k video. -- Looks promising. It would be awsome if there was a way to mount a standard 1/4" treaded camera to the solo gimbal bay - I'm ready to duck tape mine on for a test flight :) >

This camera will work using the GP tripod mount on the Solo, its the cheapest way to get pics on a M43 sensor with aerial gimbal. However, it does not do video.
Sony RX100 m3 on Solo
> here is picture how it's mounted : Flying with Sony RX100M3, shutter release anyone ? http://3drpilots.com/threads/flying-with-sony-rx100m3-shutter-release-anyone.4504/
it's the original gopro mount, removed the gopro frame and replaced with adapter for compact camera (with tripod thread) like this one : Micro HD Mount for GoPro Accessories | Sealife Cameras or this one : [$3.99] JUSTONE 1/4" Camera Tripod Mount Adapter for Gopro Series and Others
it's bit wobbly because my cameras are heavier than gopro, just a temporary solution until I find more solid mount that gives me 10-20 deg tilt for landscape pictures, in the meantime I have to use shutter speed of at least 1/500 to avoid blurred photos. >
