The 17mm lens is well-suited to scenics.
Really good idea to use monopod or Mercalli (you can select only one axis).
As lack of one axis stab is so apparent in each and every scene.
Starting November 20 and through the end of December:
X3000 $349.
X3000 with remote lcd liveview: $499.
Am in the market for drone camera. Anyone tried X3000 With 3DR Solo ? Or any other drone. Otherwise I will go for 3DR Solo with Hero4 gimbal and 2.7K Medium 60mbps Protune mode.
EDIT:- Found 3DR Iris+ and Sony gimbal for Iris+ by Elmir http://thedroneinfo.com/2015/05/18/review-a-2-axis-brushless-gimbal-for-sony-action-cams/
This guy tapes it to his Zenmuse and his phantom. Seems stable.
Thus far, I am leaning towards X3000 with wifi remote and a used 3DR Solo with Gopro gimbal. I intend to tape or use rubberbands to attach the X3000 to the gimbal.
I could use the X1000v but I agree with @mark041 that the sharpness advantage is just digital sharpening in X1000v
Happy to get feedback.
Lincoln Center, between acts.
X3000 on Phantom 2 without a gimbal. With some deflicker using Prodad, post stabilization and motion in AE - this would look amazing.

My older one (AS100V) works fine over WiFi and Sony supplies a App that will work with many phones and IPads.
As is to be expected there is some lag, but not really much worse than the Solo or even the new Mavic.
And Wifi video "preview" picture quality is quite good albeit not up to Solo or Mavic standards.
And considerable real time camera control is available through the app as well.
Possibly the problem is that it uses standard 2.4ghz Wifi which can be problematic with normal 2.4 ghz RC transmitters and receivers, not necessarily, but stock 2.4ghz GoPros have definitely demonstrated sometimes severe problems.
And of course regular WiFi range is going tobe limited in any case, both the Solo and the Mavic use a souped up Wifi that is not in conflict with normal RC transmissions.
I actually think the idea of embedding it more in the body of the "drone" is an excellent one, it could be at a fixed or simple preflight user adjustable pitch angle and be very useful for a lot of tasks.
Even with the BOSS stabilization it might be worthwhile to provide some simple elastic suspension (as is done on many of the gimbal mounts already).
Audio test - unamplified solo violin in crowded train station.
Audio test 2 - unamplified soprano (Puccini and Purcell arias) in crowded train station, but the crowd is mesmerized at the end.

While the still images lack, the videos produced by the AS300 are much better. It captures a fantastic Full HD video that is sharp and plays back flawlessly on all media sources we tested. Sony's SteadyShot optical image stabilization adds an whole new dimension to action camera videography by allowing the capture of smooth video while you and the camera are on the move. It provides a great tool for any creative camera movements as well and could replace some expensive video equipment for amateur videographers. The camera offers Full HD at up to 60pfs and 720p at 120fps. Audio is recorded with a built-in microphone, but the camera does have an audio input for outside sources.

Even with less than perfect lighting, the camera produces a sharp, vivid, well exposed video that plays back smoothly on all Medias. Movies can be played back on either a computer or any HDTV/4K with an optional HMDI cable straight out of the X3000. Sony's Optical SteadyShot image stabilization does a great job to steady your videos and provide smooth motion while the camera is on the move, making your movies easier to watch later.
Every area of this great train terminal is very dim for some reason - the main room, the food courts, and even the museum. Great stereo sound.
