Sony: We are not interested in electronics, our future is services subscriptions
  • As Sony sees it, selling individual electronics will no longer keep the company competitive. The future is in services that generate recurring revenues, and the "internet of things" will form a big part of that strategy.

The Japanese electronics company's new business model is on display at the ongoing IFA Berlin trade show, one of the world's biggest for consumer electronics and home appliances.

  • All the manufacturers would love to move into services. It is not easy. Those companies that have worked services for decades have it locked up. With no history, and a miserable record of customer support, Sony's prospects are poor. But then, Sony is Godzilla in the industry - it destroys everything else, and eventually, itself.

  • and eventually, itself.

With this they are especially good :-)

  • @4CardsMan Sony made78%of their profit from Playstation this past quarter if I remember correctly. Playstation Now is on the PC.. they probably want to eventually expand it as an app for any ole set-top box, and have the licenses to do so.
