I'm looking for an affordable hand grip for my GH4 rig that comes with an integrated start/stop button. The GH4 supports LANC, so any LANC compatible grip should work. I've found a few very nice options, but they are expensive. For example:
http://www.movigrip.com looks wonderful and highly ergonomic, but it costs over $500 USD. Tilta makes a set that sell for around $300, but I hate the design. Movcam makes one that looks decent and sells for $350. That's more than I want to spend, and while I like the design better than the Tilta, I don't like it as much as the Movigrip.
There are so many cheap Chinese knock-off items these days, there must be something like the Movigrip for less than $200 I imagine?
Thanks.
I also really like the design on the Kinogrip: https://www.kinogrip.com/index.html
I can't believe there's no cheaper option?
Well, lanparte makes remote that can be installed on normal handles
Interesting. I wonder if I could combine that somehow with this handgrip: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291329529310
I really like the wooden ones, but the Varavon has a better design in some ways.
Edit -- Yeah, I bet I could remove the ring on that Lanparte remote button, screw it onto one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261670059747
... and attach that to the inner 15mm bracket on the Varavon handle. That's an elegant solution.
I really like the wooden ones
Any reason for this? As such things are pain in the ass, until they are perfect fit to your hand.
Usually it is better idea to change hangrips on Lanparte handles (you can usually use any bike hangrips, including ergonomic ones).
I like the feeling of wood better than plastic / rubber / metal, and aesthetics are honestly a consideration as well. I love the look of old Aaton cameras, and wooden handgrips are a way of hearkening back to that look.

Best feel from all wooden stuff is for cork handles.
Actual wood, especially properly covered feels very bad during long takes.

Well, this is more like fashion :-)
Hey @Vitaliy_Kiselev, I ordered the Lanparte start/stop controller and it just arrived... it doesn't seem to work with my GH4. Did you have any reason to think it would work with a GH4, am I missing something??
bh sells a cheap remote for pany cameras. Seems it costs less than $15, so you could risk disassembling one and try remounting in any grip
AFAIK there are two LANC protocols- one for Canon/Sony and one for Panasonic.
What about this, I wonder if it works properly on panasonic and Bmpcc - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Camera-Remote-Handle-Pistol-Canon/dp/B00A2S1K7M/ref=sr_1_4/277-9621510-5575256?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1425461724&sr=1-4
Looks like the lanparte is a 2 ring jack - is it battery powered?
Hi @Sangye. I am also in search of an Aaton style wooden hand grip, similar to the KinoGrip, Movigrip etc. but more within my budget. I have found two options you might be interested in. The first is from F&V http://www.fvlighting.com/wooden-ball-handgrip-407.html which looks fairly decent. The other is this new Brazil rosewood grip from Tilta http://cvp.com/index.php?t=product/tilta_es-t17-a&gclid=CIa36_CjoMkCFUEaGwodj5cNAQ which is part of their new Sony A7 series cage. I spoke to Tilta and they confirmed that the hand grip is available seperately from the cage for $165. They said it is currently out of stock but it should be available in a couple of weeks. They also confirmed that it will work with my BMPCC (which means it should also work with your GH4) but I will need to request a LANC cable with my order ($30). This looks to me like a fantastic option. It appears to be very well made and has a similar aesthetic to the KinoGrip. For less than £130 with a cable to me it's well worth the wait and I'm getting one as soon as they become available.
The reason the Tilta wood handgrip "has a similar aesthetic to the KinoGrip" is because it is a direct copy of our Grenoble handgrip design and was used by Tilta without our knowledge or permission.
FYI you need different cables for the BMPCC and the GH4. They use a similar 2.5mm connector but BMD cameras use LANC and the GH4 doesn't. We sell both types of cables.
Thanks, Ray KinoGrip.com
Hi Ray @KinoGrip thanks for the info on cable compatability with Blackmagic/Panasonic. I've never used a GH4 myself so thanks for clearing that up. It's clear that Tilta based their design on the Kinogrip but to be fair the Kinogrip and others like the Movigrip, Ergocine, Vocas etc. are all heavily inspired by Aaton handgrips. Tilta's offering is definitely the least original though and I don't deny that they copied the shape of the Grenoble.
It seems that Tilta has changed the design of the handle very slightly now that it's been released http://www.cinegearpro.com/tilta-tt-0509-r-wooden-handgrip.html and there is also a left handle available without a REC trigger.
I think that people who can afford it, or are shooting on Arri, Red or F55 for example will still buy a Kinogrip over the Tilta. I have no doubt that it's a superior product and for many shooters it's a justified investment. However, for a lot of us shooting on Blackmagic/GH4/A7s etc. it's a vastly different economy and Tilta, rightly or wrongly, are filling that gap in the market. Besides if it's any consolation, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
look interesting for Aaton fans: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153906782439337&set=gm.1021454311252088&type=3&theater
