I have a Panasonic v770 Camcorder.
It ouputs mov/mp4 files.
With QT Pro on Windows I can Trim and save without encoding. I'm looking for a similar workflow on Linux(Ubuntu/Mint).
Some of the linux apps such as Openshot do have mov/mp4 output but restricted to 40 Mb/s.

Depending on your preferences for GUI or command line, try avidemux or mpv with the excerpt plugin.
if you really want to edit, you can try blender VSE, it takes many formats as they are, too!
