The Sony Alpha 3000 has a number of advanced features that you wouldn't expect with such an entry level product including Focus peaking, AF fine tuning, an info-lithium battery that keeps you informed as to exactly how much life is left, and full HD video with stereo sound.
The Alpha 3000 also delivers high image quality with bright saturated colors and good levels of detail, with quick focus and shutter response, along with a number of useful features such as the panoramic, HDR and effects modes.

Image quality is excellent for such a cheap camera.
The myriad range of creative effects on offer such as HDR, Dynamic Range Optimization, creative styles, the innovative sweep panorama mode and in-camera Picture Effects help to get the most out of the A3000.
We can't think of many other £370 / $400 cameras that offer interchangeable lenses, a built-in flash and hotshoe, 60/50i/25p video recording with stereo sound, and that all important DSLR look and feel, so if you can literally overlook the LCD and EVF quality, the Sony A3000 could turn out to be one of the bargains of the year.
whooaa...that's certainly a nice sensor . I'd like to see sony up the game on these dslr nex's. They certainly have more room for better evf's , swivel lcd's, and better functions, i.e the speed, focusing, and video could use some improvement. But you can get this camera with the lens for $350 now in the usa. That, frankly is unbelievable.
I was thinking, if I was to give a recommendation for an utra cheap new camera to a newbie to get started filming with.... would this Sony A3000 be it? What disadvantages does it have, no mic input for one? But the other options you can get new for this low price have similar problems, such as the Panasonic G5 and the Sony NEX 3N? Although the EOS M perhaps? (does have a mic input)
Guess the 200K EVF and 230K LCD (non-articulating and not even a touchscreen) is points against recommending the A3000 too :-/ Ah well, though I like what Sony is overall doing here in bringing the camera price down low low low, if the future "Sony A3100" gets a mic input and a higher resolution articulating LCD screen then we'll have a winner here to recommend to the newbie ultra low budget videographer!
People having been finding this camera on close out sales or as demo models for US$200 or less, and isn't too hard to find it second hand either for well under US$250.
It looked like quite a bargain initially, and now it is looking like an absolutely tremendous bargain, even with all its flaws.
I'm seriously considering it for it myself now, just as a way to get dabbling with the Sony E mount. Hmm
A3000 has an amazing sensor. For as little as $294 the Sony A3000 has a high-resolution sensor that pumps out detailed RAW images with nearly perfect color and decent low light capabilities.

With the Sony A3000, it's simply not up for debate: This camera is a spectacular value, and that makes it a whole lot easier to overlook any shortcomings it has. If you're in the market for a new interchangeable-lens camera, and you're on a tight budget, the Sony A3000 should be right near the top of your shortlist.

With a 20 Megapixel sensor, fairly capable contrast-detect AF with face detection, face registration, Smile Shutter, sophisticated auto modes and all the usual Sony Gadgets like Sweep panorama, Creative Styles, and Picture Effects, the A3000 could actually provide a much better upgrade path for phone and compact shooter than a DSLR though, and the low price is definitely a big plus-point.
