I'm holding out a little longer on the details but there is confirmation of two new models (upgrades) end of this month.
that's kind of old news right? about hte foxconn thing
Old news but I've been told its actually evolving into something useful other than just part ownership of the company.
About mobile phone tech at Go pro. Yes it is possible especially for bigger products. The thing about mobile phone tech is beating Ambarella is power consumption and heat generation. At the same process ambarella will likely win due to efficient custom circuitry, unless the mobile tech also has such circuitry. But if you want to do more than h264/265, like Raw, and cineform codec, it is another story. The snapdragon 800 etc, might come in handy and lower power. However, for very small POV action cams the snap dragon maybe too power hungry if it doesn't have custom encoder.
But now ambarella is established, have also done all their work with little and big boys, the release of 4k functionality in products has slowed down, and no 60p model. Their end of year release should soon be coming though. But it is getting to the end of ambarella love, and a new generation us starting up on mobile.
There has been talk of the possibility of a cinema camera level encoding on a go pro product for a while. They took over cineform, a leading high quality professional wavelet codec maker, and were one of the pioneers in low cost cinema cameras. They went through the trouble of incorporating the codec into a official standard, which would be excellent for dslr's and compacts for stills and video, as a top tier solution. The codec is lightweight enough to probably do 4k. A product as big as the pocket cinema camera, phablet or tablet is possible.
The bit I mentioned elsewhere, I'll post seperately.
So they have just announced a gopro hero 3+.
So they have just announced a gopro hero 3+.
Yep. We have topic about it. As far as I understand GoPro 4 will follow with some delay.
How about prices and ability to switch lenses ?

Huh. 4K at 30fps not really cool for action cam.
That Dgise post is from Sept. 2013
If you want a more recent speculative post that has no verifiable content, here:
This says the release date is March 2015, and still maintains the 4K 30p feature.
Things are not getting interesting.
The same news from July 2014

Maybe it's all just copy and paste from 2013
I wish someone made a polycarbonate enclosure for the GM1, never really been happy with GoPro footage. Perhaps that will change with the next iteration.
If this is the case it sounds like a tiny beast more powerful than most larger camera's like a mini red epic.
Pretty sure @Rambo has some connections with GoPro.
Hopefully we'll have a launch soon.
