Some of routers have special backdoor build in - https://github.com/elvanderb/TCP-32764/blob/master/backdoor_description_for_those_who_don-t_like_pptx.pdf?raw=true
After being pushed by users they released updated firmware, where they just masked backdoor so authorities could still access it:

Congratulations on your 1,000th post! This is my favourite blog.
(The GHx stuff is quite interesting too ;-)
Thanks, but it is not 1000th, as about 70-100 posts had been moved from blog to other categories.
Also ditto on the hooray for your very interesting blog, always worth checking. Really liked the Lenin quote, BTW. Hip Happy to you and Vladimir both.
That's why people start to buy chinese routers: In products from US companies, you can be sure that there is a backdoor in it for the NSA and its commercial customers, plus there's probably an additional backdoor added by the chinese factory that the router is actually manufactured in.
In chinese routers, only the one backdoor from the chinese factory is built-in, and their authorities are selling your secrets not to everyone who's paying... :-)
You can do a test for specific ports at https://www.grc.com ->services->ShieldsUP! or specifically for port 32764 at http://www.router-backdoor.de/?lang=en - according to these my router is safe. But hey, that could mean nothing!
