From a mechanical perspective, I am running into 2 problems. My rig has precision linear adjustment. However, I have just eyeballed the cameras and mounted them side by side. Is there a small pan-tilt system that can be locked into position, and can be adjusted for fine adjustments of rotation ? The motorized heads are either too large, or too unstable. I am thinking of a standard tripod head, but one with discrete changes of rotation or tilt.
How about geared heads?

I had just been looking at those for mounting projectors that need precise calibration.
Ahhh. These all look good. Except I lose the ability to bring in the cameras to closer than 64mm in the case of the panning clamp.
@zcream ... mine are actually on a mirror rig ... I hadn't thought of the inter-ocular. They will however allow for the accurate set and lock of convergence on a side-by-side
Better option for narrower usage - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/927493-REG/velbon_panamatic_panorama_tripod_device.html The bubblehead can point outward.
Also the Sunwayfoto DDH02i are 52mm dia
@zcream ... velbon looks like the go.
I went for the 03 for the extra strength, planning on bigger cameras
Sunwayfoto DDH02i are 52mm dia but the QR plates allow the cameras to come in together. ATM, I would recommend the Sunwayfoto DDH02i as the best deal for rotational camera alignment.
