The AW1 could surely be one of the best sellers this holiday season for the adventurer types. It has a lot going for it, and we’re positive that the image quality is also top notch for the 1 inch sensor size.

Shutter response, focus speed and shot to shot speeds are impressive, and the flash recharge time is also impressive.
Exposure is reliable, and results are good, although in low light the lack of image stabilization can result in needing a higher ISO and image quality suffering as a result.
It is the only waterproof or shockproof interchangeable lens camera every made. Its large 1" CMOS sensor provide it with image-quality superior to many other waterpoof cameras.
AW1 produces clean images up to ISO 400 and reasonable results until ISO 6400 for small 4x6" prints. Metering, color and white-balance are all quite good.

AW1 is Nikon's most comprehensive and very probably best compact system camera yet.
With the ability to shoot Raw as well as JPEG, high quality video with stereo sound and do both in otherwise testing conditions, this is one compact styled CSC that just about does it all.

The AW1 ups the ante significantly and tries to bridge the gap between three different types of camera - compact enthusiast P&S digicams, interchangeable lens cameras, and underwater/all weather/extreme sports cameras. While the AW1 does have a couple of blemishes, it will easily and dependably meet the needs of its target audience
Here's a preview from Adorama of the AW1. This looks nice!
New firmware
If there’s one thing that’s nice about the Nikon 1 series of cameras it’s that the company got autofocus right. Focusing is very quick on the AW1. With 73 phase detect and 135 contrast detect AF points in total, the camera has enough AF points to cover the entire frame. When shooting moving subject, the AW1 also had no qualms tracking focus either.
