@Irondiver If you're planing greenscreen shots, the best alternative is one of the Blackmagic cameras.
Technical Marketing Manager for Sony Europe’s Digital Imaging division, Ben Pulling, has had his hands on the A7 camera and reported to us that: the “Focus magnifier CAN be used while recording video”
Thing I do not understand is why making big thing out of it. As most probably it works only on internal monitor and, may be, on EVF (as they are of lower resolution).
Because otherwise it can mean that it reads whole frame, but in this case we won't see such moire as we see now.
Xenogears, do you day this because the BlackMagics use ProRes or because of the processing they do prior to encoding on the cards?
This is the stuff that I am still learning, and yes struggling with. When I look at footage, what is the result of poor camera/shooting technique, what is less than stellar processing and finally what is weak codec
That test video looks pretty bad. Loads of moire and aliasing and seems the almost Sony trademark blotchy low light video noise is still present on these.
I would say, from that last sample video, there is huge difference between A7 and A7r in terms of video quality (that first ISO3200 scene looks pretty clean except for some moire on the tyres). While both clearly show moire, the A7r is definitely superior on sharpness and artifacts are not as clearly visible as with the A7. Seems like that 24mpx sensor is just not suited for video, like in the VG900, A99, RX1... But the 36mpx one behaves better.
despite the moire problem, it seems the aliasing is well controlled. considering video my conclusion for now is: if you have the 5d mark iii keep it, if you do not have and want or need a full frame go for the a7.
I am starting to think that a full frame GH5 wouldn't be such a bad option. It could always use the crop mode for legacy m4/3s lenses and they could sell us a bunch of new glass for full frame photos and videos.
I simply cannot believe that they crammed a full frame sensor into that small body. That is just too cool.
Looks decent. Look forward to more challenging tests. Color looks good.
With Zeiss 55mm f1.4 Otus lens, the focus peaking wasn’t so accurate. We used some of Sony’s own lenses and adapters. The focusing wasn’t perfectly nailed.
Sony algorithm seems to be putting more emphasis on the highlights. We’ve found that the system underexposes by a full stop.
Nailing that image with A7r is tougher because the sensor amplifies the slightest issue (such as camera shake) and any other problem by ten fold. We almost feel like anything we do with it requires a tripod.

SLR lounge has full size samples. Although it looks like the adapter with the pellicle mirror has misfocusing issues since it was a pre-production unit:
