So, like many others I am waiting for the Nikon version of this lens to be shipped to me. But in the meantime I have had some projects that the lens was perfect for, so I went ahead and rented the Canon version along with a Kipon adapter to attach to my GH2.
The lens is definitely too heavy for the GH2 in this combo. It needs a lens support. I actually made it through a shoot without one, but probably wasn't a good idea. When I got back and tested some more with a follow focus, I realized how much the lens and mount was moving. Not good. So, I may now just wait until I get the Nikon version and figure out how to make it work with my Novoflex G adapter and Metabones Speed Booster.
Hpefully I didn't damage the GH2 mount in the process. Now have to run some tests to make sure nothing got out of whack, but wanted to warn others of this combo so they can be prepared for the weight.
Looking forward to tips for how to manage this. I have no experience with heavy lenses and supports.
What in the case of handheld work? Always hold the lens with one hand?
@MikeLinn nice suspense movie, the Camp Comet one... that girl is so clumsy, disaster waiting to happen :P
That second video's frontal shot of the water and couple shots following got me suspended for 3.63467567 seconds. Though can't say I like the overall edit, or music, or titleLinn, but the lens delivers allright... probably is sharper than the clumsy girl knifes, je je. Thanks for sharing Mike
Yes, I was afraid she was going to chop herself doing that while I was shooting, she should have used a better knife. xD
The lens is sharp, I haven't had a chance to shoot any narrative with it yet but I am just showing footage for people that are interested, as there isn't a lot of SIgma 18-35 motion footage out right now. It is probably the best lens purchase I have ever made since Contax Zeiss back in the day.
I traded my Canon 28, 50, and Sigma 20mm to get this lens for my 2.5K and Pocket Camera, it looks really good on the Pocket Camera as well.
These look like compact lens supports which could do: http://www.hejnarphotostore.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6&zenid=sr04eqab7a31j25dvu7shapl16
@dtr I decided to buy this lens support. http://www.lanparte.com/html/188.html
There is also this one. http://varavon.com/product/lens_supporter.html
And this one http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalog/microClamps/microLensSupport
After you inquired about the lens support, I realized that I could use the riser for the Hot Rod PL support as a lens support, so have been doing that. Thanks for initiating the thought. It did concern me.
@Flaaandeers (did I spell that right?)
I had some footage for you and an interesting test re: SLR magic 25/0.95 but botched it. At the end of the day I ended up with only two or three usable clips from the Pocket Camera... they look great, but not really worth an upload.
I'll try to grab some more soon, but there'll likely be more out by then.
@smsjr : Yes I've seen those. They all require rods which i'm trying to avoid to remain compact and cheap.
@dtr camera felt good in my hands today with an 11-16. but a long zoom would need rods and support in my opinion. 11-16 feels like a good stealth lens. add a speedbooster and you can really go wide
What's going on with the Nikon version of this lens. Why is it taking this long?
there's 2 in stock at this moment on amazon
Sigma must have messed up with the supply chain of the Nikon mount version. Ive had one on order for months, with no indication of delivery date.
I got an email on 9/30 from B&H stating the Nikon version was finally in stock.
rental houses are also starting to advertise it as "in stock", so it is definitely starting to appear.

Seems like everyone is waiting for the Nikon mount - is there any particular advantage or reason to get the Nikon mount (vs Canon mount)?
adapter with aperture control is a simpler affair with Nikon G => M43.
Here are your adapter options for for Canon EF mount => M43

Nikon G adapter has a simple mechanical control of the lens' built-in iris.
@_OZ Great advice thanks. Is the Novoflex adapter the best one?
They've actually been in stock for about a week. Herb hit me up with an Amazon link but I didn't trade my Canon mount out for one.
I'm waiting to see some Speedbooster tests wide open through the zoom range before I consider it.
