Nice! Since I have a rather pricey carbon-fiber boom pole that I want to protect when transporting I am totally going to implement this guy's design - except that I am going to add some 1 cm foam, cut its width to the inner diameter of the PVC pipe and push it through so that I have a good cushion for the boom pole inside. This is a really cheap, rugged and functional design.

good idea. You might also use those long plastic cases that architects and artists use to carry their rolls of sketches and drawings.
