Panasonic is announcing a commercialization of new digital interchangeable lens LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm / F1.7 ASPH. complying Micro Four Thirds System standard.
The LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm / F1.7 ASPH. is an excellent 15mm single focal length lens of F1.7 clearing LEICA’s stringent standard. It also features sophisticated exterior that matches the stylish design of the world’s smallest LUMIX GM digital single lens mirrorless (DSLM) camera.
In addition to “LEICA DG SUMMILUX 25mm / F1.4 ASPH.” and “LEICA DG MACRO-ELMARIT 45mm / F2.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S.” which are already released to the market, Panasonic has also announced product commercialization of LEICA DG NOCTICRON 42.5mm / F1.2 to enhance the lineup of LEICA digital interchangeable lens, attracting professional photographers worldwide.
In the meanwhile, Panasonic is further expanding the range of LUMIX G digital interchangeable lens with the development of new LUMIX G VARIO telephoto zoom lens of 35-100mm in stylish, compact design that also matches the LUMIX GM camera.

This is the lens I want to have. Must be much faster AF.
Looks like an aperture ring. Nice. Miss that on my 25mm, which - apart from that - is an awesome lens.
Fast WA with AF, I am happy to see this lens, I think it was well needed.
15mm f1.7 lens is designed to fit the GM1 so it will have the same diameter as the 12-32 kit lens. Leica Summilux branding also suggest very good IQ. AF should be faster than the 25mm due to lighter lens elements.
This looks like a nice addition to the m43 lens line up, I really like the 25mm.. anybody else wondering if this lens might lend weight to the argument for a Leica branded GM camera?
@dtr - I also like the Panasonic LEICA 25mm. If you prefer the aperture ring, perhaps look into the Panasonic LEICA D SUMMILUX 25mm? Unlike the DG version it has the aperture ring, but you'd want the 43/m43 adapter. They are a bit pricey...
They are a bit pricey...
Nope, they are cheap now, as Chinese are making them :-)
There will be a nice fast panny prime set soon 15mm/F1.7, 20mm/F1.7, 25mm/F1.4, 42,5mm/1.2, 150mm/F2.8 :-)
@jimmystillhere1 +1 LOL
It's a shame we do not have signature here
Panasonic has unveiled a new digital interchangeable lens, the H-X015 LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm / F1.7 ASPH. (35 mm camera equivalent: 30 mm) for the LUMIX G range, based on the Micro Four Thirds standard, which is both compact and lightweight.
The new LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm / F1.7 ASPH. allows photographers to capture supreme daily life pictures with beautiful bokeh. Exceptional optical performance is assured with certification granted from the world-renowned LEICA.
The new lens system comprising of 9 elements in 7 groups uses 3 aspherical lenses. The aspherical lenses suppress spherical aberration and distortion effectively while enabling the lens unit to be made smaller.
Panasonic's Nano Surface Coating technology is adopted to minimize the reflection at entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) resulting in the super clear picture quality by avoiding ghost and flare.
The lens incorporates a superior inner focus system, which enables excellent resolution and contrast from close-up to infinity. The inclusion of a newly developed stepping motor makes the focusing action smooth, silent and quicker for use in both photo and video recording.
Notably the performance of AF is by far superior to the phase-difference AF when fast lenses with a smaller F value are used. It is also compatible with the sensor drive at max.240 fps to take maximum advantage of the high-speed AF of LUMIX G cameras.
The LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm / F1.7 ASPH. comes equipped with aperture ring and AF/MF switch for direct, intuitive operation. Furthermore, the robust metal design of LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm / F1.7 ASPH., including the hood, is highly reliable and durable for repeated exchange of the lens.
Its a nice looking and solid feeling lens, well-built with great results - I had a look at a prototype recently - working very well on the GH4 and GM1.
Do you have any samples?
Could be an ideal standard prime lens for the Blackmagic Pocket - if, and only if, its native optical distortion isn't too bad. (So far, all Panasonic wide-angle and normal prime lenses relied on in-camera distortion correction.)
@Vitaliy_Kiselev There are now some photos and more info on the Panasonic H-X015 pages: min. focal distance 0.2m, filter φ46mm, min. aperture f/16, 7 diaphragm blades, Diameter x Length 5.8cm x3.6cm, weight 115g
When we held the lens, we believed it to feel just like an old Leica M mount lens. Upon feeling the curves of the lens and clicking the aperture ring, we have to say that it puts anything that Fujifilm has produced to shame. With every aperture click, we were falling deeper and deeper in love.

Look for GH4 + 15mm 1.7 photo samples on the midway. The color has PanaLeica mojo. The outer barrel seems having same material and coating as PL 42.5mm 1.2's. Pricey yet tempting.

Bundled with a metal hood and pouch, it compares favorably in both price and performance with the 17mm f1.8 from Olympus. Both compromise some aspects of performance for the sake of certain practicalities but the higher peak sharpness and improved uniformity of the Leica lens is difficult to ignore.
Sharpness already approaches excellent levels in the center of the frame at f/1.7, although typically of fast aperture lenses, the clarity towards the edges is only fairly good. Stopping down improves sharpness across the frame, with peak performance being achieved between f/4 and f/5.6. Here sharpness is outstanding in the centre and excellent towards the edges of the frame.
