there is a 4:2:2 10 bit 600Mbps intraframe version, the PXW-Z100, with a list of $6500 and estimated street price of $5500. This version includes cine 4K, but the 4K SDI does not work while recording. http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/assets/files/micro/xdcam/latest/Sony_PXW-Z100_4K_camcorder-Sep4-2013.pdf http://www.sony.co.uk/pro/product/broadcast-products-camcorders-xdcam/pxw-z100/features#features http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcam/resource.latest.bbsccms-assets-micro-xdcam-latest-pxwz100.shtml
Hmm, this is cool. But it is best to make separate topic for it.
Having a 8MP frames to choose, i think this camera could be the all in one-holy grail for wedding photographers. Sony is moving forward! (Finally)
"I would expect this kind of high resolution small sensor handheld camera to be a great working tool for anyone who is doing “run&gun” events, documentary style shooting and even covering sport. I would expect such a camera to perform well in all lighting situations but unfortunately this is not the case with the new Sony FDR-AX1. The combination of a small sensor packed with a great amount of tiny pixels doest not do well to the low light capability of this camera. As you can see in the various sample footage I took, even using the gain control did not help much improving the overall dark images the camera produces. (see Oriental flavor-Night video). Instead, noise was added to the picture. (all in all I’ve used gain 3db, 6db, 9db up to 12db)."

LOL. Surprise, surprise.
Even with larger cameras you'll see higher pixel noise.
Does anyone besides me think it is funny that this $4500 Sony cannot compete in Low Light with a mid-level Camcorder like the Canon M400 (used ~$250)?
I think it is more funny that we have such complains :-) As people who will buy this camera know that they are doing.
Same shit happened with HD transition with threads full of complains. It'll all pass.
Yup--but someone will also make a 4K camera with a larger sensor. I'm looking forward to 4k, but not replacing ten cams. I may have to wait till the price drops.

Yes, of course. But some people want 4k right a way. Sony offer them good option. Far from perfect, but in good light it is good camera.
I have been testing for a few hours. This has one of the worst pictures I have seen on almost anything. I can't imagine how Sony produced the sample videos on this. Noise and artifacts are visible and obvious everywhere and DR is minimal. Other than that, the hardware is beautiful and it keys rather easily. If someone can suggest what I might be doing wrong, I would appreciate it. I am viewing in Premiere Pro CC, WMP, etc.
After doing an apples to apples comparison with the GH3, I can see there is a substantial increase in detail. The fact that I can actually see noise and artifacts on the still frame is throwing me, but I better reserve judgement until I can compare the final output in typical circumstances.
Sony is teaming up with the Napa Valley Film Festival showing off the latest Sony gear and films in the Sony lounge.
This year, we’re kicking off the first NVFF SONY 4K FILM CHALLENGE, a timed filmmaking competition starting Tuesday, November 12th. Armed with the Sony 4K Handycam Camcorder, five teams will embark on the 60-hour challenge to craft a short film based on randomly-assigned topics. Each team will receive genre, prop and location requirements, after which it’s up to their creative ingenuity to craft the ultimate short film.
