I had the chance to take the S1H to test for a week and wanted to use it for some real shoots instead of the standard review and specs videos.
I decided to gift a video to a local wildlife sanctuary and tell their story using the camera and I was blown away with how it worked. As most of you know, I've been a Lumix ambassador in Canada for several years now and had access to all of their gear to test and use and I've been using a GH5 as my main camera since it came out but I will definitely be moving to the S1H soon! Check out the video and let me know what you think!
Shot in 60P 4:2:0 10 bit for everything except the interview which was shot in 4K 24p 4:2:2 10bit all with VLog and the Nicest EE 709 lut with no other corrections.
Thanks for sharing. Great visuals and great story. I guess it was all shot in manual focus? Did you shoot handheld?

Panasonic S1H : First Mirrorless Camera Approved for Netflix 4K Production
https://www.engadget.com/2019/10/24/panasonic-s1h-netflix-approved/
Yep, but does this matter much? I am not sure.
Yep, but does this matter much? I am not sure.
It means that the camera meets Netflix 4K production standard and can be used as an "A" camera for 4K films. It's also the cheapest camera that meets this standard.
The only Blackmagic cameras that have been certified by Netflix are the Ursa Mini 4.6K cameras. The cheapest Canon camera certified by Netflix is the C300 Mk2. The Cheapest Sony camera certified is the FS7.
Cinema5D just posted S1H dynamic range and rolling shutter test results. In the Cinema5D list of cameras they have tested with the most dynamic range, the S1H comes in second behind the ARRI Alexa Mini, with the Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4.6K G2 in third place... https://www.cinema5d.com/panasonic-s1h-lab-test-dynamic-range-and-rolling-shutter-results/
I have big issues with their DR tests and approach to tests in general.
I have big issues with their DR tests and approach to tests in general.
Is there a better resource for DR tests that have published their results for the top video contenders ?
I am not tracking such tests, hope so.
@Vitaly_Kiselev why do you have „big issue“ with this test? I am doing the testing part on cinema5d by the way.
The DR test with the Xyla21 stepchart is a very repeatable, consistent test. And we are using a criterion (DR at signal to noise ratio of 2) that can be mathematically calculated from the image (no human interpretation here).
And, this criterion makes it possible to compare the DR to the reference in cinema, the Arri Alexa.
Now, is it perfect? No, because internal noise reduction of the cameras has an impact on the test result.
Nevertheless, the result gives a very good indication on the capabilities and you can compare all results directly.
This test however is only a little part of the overall picture when we review a camera. So we encourage readers to not overemphasize the DR results.
Is there a better, consistent and standardized test out there? Not to my knowledge. Please let me know if there is one.
Best regards Gunther
Wow, nice to see you making test.
I remember our talks about different aspects of camera testing and you had zero interest.
Do you have some page with formal description of all stages and all equipment used at present time?
I'll need time to fully formulate my position from technical side.
And I'll do it only after publishing full good camera test made by PV anyway.
Not sooner, as some of parts are original and I have zero intentions to share them with Cinema5D.
DR at signal to noise ratio of 2
What is exact DR definition used in Cenema5D tests?
Just do not rush, as it can be in reality much more complex question than you think.
