Not surprising that this would happen one day.
AEE Technologies is another Chinese manufacturer producing both drones (some of them with industrial applications) and cameras. Not very well known yet but worth keeping an eye on.
Worst review I've ever seen on an older Phantom. Reviewer had no clue about so many things concerning calibration, flight montitoring, IOSD, etc. Plus suggesting that complete newbs go out and start shooting commercially? Know just enough to be dangerous. Hope no one takes that guy seriously.

I think it is quite old news, but not effective yet. I do not think that they do this because they like you, they are doing it only due too much work required. :-)
If people refused to register their drones they'll also cancel this completely.
The amendment was just inserted a few days ago so this is the first time its actually shown up in any pending legislation. To date about 325,000 hobbyist drones have registered, so I'm not sure they'll do away with the registration requirement anytime soon (as bogus as it is).
If it passes we'll probably see a lot of the drone mfrs race to pack as much performance as they can into a 4.4 lb machine (bigger camera sensors, etc.) because even the "pros" are not gonna want to put up with all the red tape that comes with flying a heavier machine.
