I'm planning to buy a GH3, But someone on a french website warned me that when the LCD or the EVF shuts down, the stream stops. The only setting appears to be the LCD/EVF "wake" time : max 5 minutes. So after 5 minutes no more HDMI stream !

I need the camera to be on 6 or 7 hours per day, sending HDMI stream continuously (GH3 not recording : in pause mode). Someone could confirm the 5 min issue ? If it's true, could it be fixed via hack or something ?

PS, Vitaliy answered me earlier in this thread : http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5810/studio-setup-with-atem-television-studio-switcher-and-ghx/p1

but I'm wondering if someone with a GH3 could check this 5 minutes issue.

Thanks Al

Best 2020 compact mobile solution for web streaming moving mirrorless camera ??? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24681/best-2020-compact-mobile-solution-for-web-streaming-moving-mirrorless-camera- Mon, 02 Nov 2020 08:58:45 +0000 act 24681@/talks/discussions Event videographers need some compact web streaming solution for moving camera (rig, gimbal).

First thing I imagine in my mind is using smartphone camera installed in same position as main mirrorless camera, but I wondering if it possible to use some dedicated device for streaming recording footage.

I remember that Zhiyun tried to add on their gimbals at 2018 web streaming feature via smartphone application, but that feature was disabled and no one used it. Maybe someone use his gimbal as streaming converter?

I got advice from local photo store to use wireless video transmitter and receiver on laptop with net-stick device, but I'd like to find all-in-one solution without laptop. Please write your suggestions.

I use Lumix S1 with Ronin S, that combo already heavy, so I looking for something lightweight.

clean video out from. the panasonic gh2 with bitrate hack? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24584/clean-video-out-from.-the-panasonic-gh2-with-bitrate-hack Sun, 11 Oct 2020 21:57:09 +0000 Personalkees 24584@/talks/discussions Hi I would like to get a clean HDMI output from my panasonic gh2 for streaming. The camera output is only clean when recording. This limits the time i can use the camera for streaming because the card is full. Is it possible to hach the camera to record 1080 at an extremely LOW bitrate so the card never gets full? What numbeR do i have to change in the .ini file to record at a low bitrate?

Inexpensive DSLR/mirrorless cam with live HDMI for streaming https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23912/inexpensive-dslrmirrorless-cam-with-live-hdmi-for-streaming Tue, 26 May 2020 13:46:11 +0000 zigizigi 23912@/talks/discussions I've recently checked the second hand market for webcams to be surprised that used Logitech 920 prices have DOUBLED since this winter with all the COVID nonsense and the online boom accompanying it. So at that price I'm ripe to add a little extra cash for some bokeh.

My main candidate is Sony 5100. But what about prior NEX series, are there any good options? Or maybe some old Canons and Nikons I'm not aware of?

Requirements:

  1. Clean live 1080 HDMI, don't need 4K.
  2. Preferably phase autofocus with good face detection. Sorry Panasonic, I've handled too many of your cameras, to know that you're not the best option in this respect.
  3. Can sustain two hours stream without overheating. I've read that Sony overheats quickly when recording on a card, but runs cooler streaming to HDMI. Any 5xxx, 6xxx owners here? Is it true?
  4. Below $400 used.
  5. Flip screen would be a good addition, but is not necessary.

Coronavirus: How will productions change how they shoot during the near/mid term future? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23774/coronavirus-how-will-productions-change-how-they-shoot-during-the-nearmid-term-future Fri, 17 Apr 2020 08:44:00 +0000 IronFilm 23774@/talks/discussions Over the years there has been a general trend to do more TV series and feature films be shot multi-camera.

I wonder if (until we find a vaccine for COVID-19, or it naturally burns out) in the near future we'll see a shift back to more single camera shooting instead?

Could mean more shooting days, but there could be a strong desire to shoot with the smallest minimal crews possible. As the bigger the crews, the bigger the risk someone comes down with COVID-19, causing the entire production to be shutdown!

With one exception, I can see the sound department needing to add an extra boom op than they'd usually budget for. Because lav-ing a person is quite intimate, I can see for the next few weeks/months that lavs will be avoided. Thus it becomes even more essential than usual to make sure you get the best possible coverage with the boom.

Wonder too what will happen to the generous film incentives these scripted productions get from states/countries? When their state budgets are already under massive stresses from increased costs and a reduced tax intake, they'll be looking to cut "costs" (although I'd argue it is not a cost, but merely a tax rebate? Tax money the state would have never got otherwise, if the production wasn't shot there).

These tax rebates / film incentives will be especially vulnerable to attack if they were implemented under the basis of being "marketing for the region" to help promote tourism. Was where is the tourism now?? Dead. There is very little tourism to promote, and many regions would not want to promote tourists coming! As they want to lock out everyone who is "non-essential".

Moving on from the scripted narrative world, to the corporate world of videography and also event shooting. Am expecting a rise in live streaming. Soon nearly everyone will need to offer, just like the shift from SD to HD, everyone had to offer HD. (and we're almost at that point with 4K now)

Who charges extra for 4K these days? Most don't, or only a small token extra amount.

So will be the case with live streaming I think, you'll either throw it in to get the job or just a modest upsell extra cost.

And because an ATEM Mini Pro costs only US$599 you can easily eat that cost, as if it only gets you a couple of extra jobs that you wouldn't have otherwise, then it is worth it!

Your input on "Magic Window" (as seen in Pepsi bus stop viral) https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15801/your-input-on-magic-window-as-seen-in-pepsi-bus-stop-viral Tue, 27 Sep 2016 03:57:01 +0000 JackBayer 15801@/talks/discussions Hello!

I am trying to get my head around setting up something like this:

The idea came from a potential client who wants to pull off something similiar but with a more interactive setup, where People can go to an pre-installed Ipad and "launch" the comet (for example) through the push on a button.

Here's what I've got so far:

LED screen stands on street. Pre-rendered rgba clips sit on an Ipad which is connected to an ATEM unit through Lightning->HDMI Adapter (setup as secondary Screen). A camera behind the LED screen feeds the "window content" live through HDMI to ATEM. In ATEM software the live feed is overlayed permanently with whatever comes from the Ipad. ATEM output goes to LED screen.

So when a user goes to the Ipad and chooses a clip to launch it gets played over the Ipad's output and mixed live in ATEM and then displayed on the screen in front of the user.

There are a few possible problems which I can already think of: Will the Ipad output "black" (which would then black out my live feed) when nothing is being played? Can ATEM overlay two vieo feeds, one with alpha? Will alpha even be transferred via HDMI? EDIT: No it's not. So instead of rgba I could use greenscreen footage and let ATEM do a live key?

I would very much appreciate any of your thoughts on this.

THANK YOU!

Teradek Sphere (360 degree live streaming video) https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14982/teradek-sphere-360-degree-live-streaming-video Mon, 18 Apr 2016 23:38:54 +0000 IronFilm 14982@/talks/discussions http://www.cnet.com/news/teradek-sphere-will-change-how-live-360-degree-vr-video-is-created/

From there you can use, for example, an iPad to view the video and dynamically adjust white balance, tint, exposure and lens distortion in real time for each camera. You can monitor the video in three different ways -- Perspective, Panoramic and Headset -- so you can see just how your viewers will see your content, whether that's on a mobile device, in a Web browser or in a VR headset.

The Sphere app can then be used to live-stream the 360-degree video to platforms like Wowza and YouTube, which now supports live-streaming 360-degree content.

"With the ability to stream to any destination at bit rates of up to 10Mbps and the flexibility to work with any rigged camera setup from GoPro to RED, Sphere will be the go-to solution for high-quality 360 streaming," said Teradek Brand Manager Topher DeLancy. "As VR grows we feel it will be another powerhouse media division alongside cinema, gaming and broadcast."

The Teradek Sphere will be available in June for $3,000 (approximately AU$3,875 or £2,100), but you can get a taste of its performance right now via a live-stream of the NAB 2016 convention or by downloading the free iOS app.

I need to find a solution where the GH4 picture is transferred to any HDMI device such as a Aputure vs-2 or desktop monitor. I need clients to watch as well as mount my aputure vs-2 on the remote controller of the ronin-m.

DJI itself seems to have some general solution which I have not yet testet. Any user experience?

Are there any other wireless system solutions?

Web streaming + HDMI recording 2-3GHx's https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6391/web-streaming-hdmi-recording-2-3ghxs Wed, 13 Mar 2013 13:56:30 +0000 andrevanberlo 6391@/talks/discussions As there are quite a few videographers around here that use much of the same equipment i do I thought this forum is the best place to post my question.

I want to use the HDMI of my 2 GH3’s for webstreaming using some software like wirecast but also for recording instructional videos on my Mac.

Now I’ve been looking at solutions from AJA, Matrox, and Blackmagic but I’m unsure which one actually does what i need it to do.

This is the short list of features that I’m looking for: 2 hdmi inputs that can be streamed simultaneously to the web Able to record the HDMI of both cams to an SSD the device or card would help out with any rendering done by FCPX , Pr, AE, etc...

Extra’s: I have also one GH2, I’ve read that the HDMI of the GH2 is useless for recording but maybe it can be used for streaming? The possibility of adding the GH2 to the setup and thus having 3 cams would be a welcome bonus but not necessary.

I have an RME fireface 800 that i'll be using for audio capture.

What would you all see as the best way to go about doing this?

Multiple camera live event, streaming with PC, wireless HDMI solution and Starcraft. https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12148/multiple-camera-live-event-streaming-with-pc-wireless-hdmi-solution-and-starcraft. Sun, 11 Jan 2015 08:00:21 +0000 256colour 12148@/talks/discussions Hey. I've been lurking around here for years while toying with my gh2. Got some really valuable knowledge from here and made some fun artsy things for myself. Recently i have found myself a new ambition for my gh2.

For some years I’ve done local lanparties here in my little 1 million population country. There has been somewhere around 150 participants, we have played some older and newer games and it has been fun.

Last year i also did some streaming for event’s tournament (in estonian language) and got surprisingly quite few people watching. I got some feedback saying that it’s pretty fun and all that but there is something missing, it lacks a little bit of that „live“ effect. Unfortunately I’dont have much time to play these days, but I really want to do something extra for local community this year to add a little excitement.

So the plan I want to realize is like this:

Up to 2-3 cameras in sync with eachother, one of them totally wireless with video and sound. Commentary table with 2 mics, lavalier or headworn type which could be used in the schools halls and corridors where events usually take place. Create tv-show or sportslike viewer friendly experience with live editing.

The resources i have: ’Laptop with usb3 port. (haven’t bought yet, need one with good usb3 interface and nvidia chip) ’PC computer with usb3. ’Firewire camcorder hv20 with analog output (firewire connection has 3 secs of lag so can’t be used) ’GH2 ’H4N ’Firewire external sound card with 1 XLR and 2 Hi-Z line inputs (H4N can be connected through line input) ’1 lav mic(works only with h4n 3,5 input, not Hi-Z / line ones) ’Rode videomic

The budget i have is somewhere about 2000€. All gear must be availible for shipping to Estonia (no extra tax inside EU) The things i think i need to buy but are not totally sure about are:

’USB3 HDMI Capture card. It would be good if i could connect two cameras into one, or i might need to use 2 capture cards. But is that even possible? Does USB interface allow such bandwidth? ’Used camcorder with CLEAN hdmi output and usable as usb webcam. I know some Canon camcorders are useable with USB, but i don’t have any idea about delay’s and sync, would be very useful feature nonetheless. ’2 lavalier or headworn microphones for commentary table ’Wireless hdmi video and sound transmitter with minimal to no delay (uncompressed signal is a must?) ’External sound card with more inputs or analog mixer (h4n itself might be enough in some situations) 'usb webcam (do these things have delay?)

The programs used will be Open Broadcaster or Xsplit, but can also be something else if it’s not too expensive. I have done research about allmentioned things myself and later I try to post some of my own conclusions after i have sorted all the links. At the moment things feel a little overwhelming, but it’s ok. ;)

At the moment the thing I haven’t figured out is how will i be able to monitor the cameras if i should buy 2 capture cards. I want to avoid buying Blackmagic ATEM just for monitoring function. I need a some way to monitor capture card inputs without showing them on Xsplit stream window. Basically, I need to preview the camera feeds that you'd throw live before you switch to them. At the moment it’s not possible with Open Broadcaster, Xsplit has a preview scene function in beta 2.0 at the moment which can be a workaround i guess. But maybe there are some other program to monitor capture cards inputs? I think Wirecast supports it, if can’t find any workaround then I might be forced to buy it..

There is also an older thread with also some good discussion: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6391/web-streaming-hdmi-recording-2-3ghxs/p1

I would be most grateful if you would share me your advice and knowledge to make this Starcraft dream of mine happen. = )

BMD Ultrastudio mini recorder(thunderbolt) + GH3 + Wirecast for streaming https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8577/bmd-ultrastudio-mini-recorderthunderbolt-gh3-wirecast-for-streaming Mon, 28 Oct 2013 01:13:41 +0000 andrevanberlo 8577@/talks/discussions Hey everyone,

To do some live streaming I’ve looked at many solutions and this one seems (at this point) the most ideal for my multi camera setup : hook up 3 gh3’s to 3 Ultrastudio mini recorders with thunderbolt and use wirecast to do the streaming and encoding on the mac pro/hackintosh.

I’ve seen however some conflicting messages on forums where it seems that the GH3 signal will not pass through the mini recorder, so does any one have experience with this? Can anyone confirm the mini recorder works with the GH3 and wirecast?

I believe the GH3 has 4:2:0 out and the codecs supported by the mini recorder are:   AVC-Intra, AVCHD, Canon XF MPEG2, Digital SLR, DV-NTSC, DV-PAL, DVCPRO50, DVCPROHD, DPX, HDV, XDCAM EX, XDCAM HD, XDCAM HD422, Apple ProRes 4444, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes (LT), Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy), Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2, Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2.

So perhaps the GH3 might not work due to different colorspace?

Here a post where you see a setup using to minirecorders thunderbolt + usb camera to stream live with wirecast: htttp://forum.telestream.net/forum/messageview.aspx?catid=45&threadid=13444 The guy doesn't use a dslr but dedicated camera but you can use the mini recorders with wirecast, only question is, will it work with the GH3?!

Hope one of you can shed some light on this matter

What is best way to convert for the web: 50p or 24p to 30p https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7562/what-is-best-way-to-convert-for-the-web-50p-or-24p-to-30p Fri, 19 Jul 2013 15:22:25 +0000 andrevanberlo 7562@/talks/discussions I've bought 2 GH3's PAL and want to start recording videos for the web. Now i know that 30p is best for the web but what would be the best footage/way to convert and what program or hardware to use? Would like to have option to use footage for dvd.

50p to 30p or 24p to 30p

Does anyone know which would give the best results? Or would 24p itself work fine? The videos are only static shots of a guitar(lesson) so no panning.

A second question would be: i want to do live streaming with those 2 cams, would 24p be the best setting for live internet streaming? I've heard 25p is crappy and 50p not yet possible...

Thanks!

Great Netflix Streaming Documentaries on Low Budget Filmmaking https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3131/great-netflix-streaming-documentaries-on-low-budget-filmmaking Mon, 07 May 2012 00:58:32 +0000 CRFilms 3131@/talks/discussions Firstly apologies to those outside the US, these probably won't be available to you, but I'm sure you can find them...somewhere.

Let's start with Popatopolis. A doc about veteran B-Movie maker Jim Wynorski. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0691061/ He's made over 70 films, some with titles like "Bare Wench Project", "The Da Vinci Coed", and the classic "The Return of Swamp Thing". This time he's making a move called, "The Witches of Breastwick" and he's trying to do it in 3 days. We can all take some lessons from him, especially his casting choices. ^_^

Next let's go underage and gory! A 12 year old girl decided to make a zombie movie. Zombie Girl: The Movie This follows the multi-year journey of young Emily Hagins and her desire to make a full length zombie feature. Great flick and you can learn a lot from seeing the problems she encounters along the way.

Her next movie played at SXSW, here's the trailer.

And finally we go overseas to the heart of Africa with Welcome to Nollywood. Did you know that Nigeria has the third largest movie industry, IN THE WORLD?!?! You could almost believe this is a mocumentary, but no way could anybody write fiction like this.

Love the boast about importing Nigerians to put hollywood out of business. Not sure about that, but they'd definitely give Wynorski a run for his money.
