The SIGMA CORPORATION is pleased to announce that it will enter into the cinema lens market with the release of its SIGMA CINE LENSES, designed specifically for cinematography. In the world of digital film production, there is an increasing demand for higher resolution, and SIGMA’s new lineup of high-performance lenses is compatible with the latest, high-resolution digital cinema cameras. SIGMA has developed its own production system by establishing the required technology for mass production of high-performance lenses for ultra-mega-pixel shooting. The company feels this valuable new lens line could create a fundamental change in digital film production, and provide a new solution for cinematographers.

  • Unbeatable value – the highest optical performance in its class and outstanding compact design
  • Wide range of lenses for professional use
  • Optimized for the latest digital moviemaking technology

For the first phase, SIGMA will release two zoom lenses in Japan and the USA for EF and E mount camera systems. Furthermore, another zoom lens and five prime lenses will be released to the market in sequence from 2017 onward. SIGMA plans to develop additional zoom and prime lenses as well as add support for PL mount camera systems. The latest release information will be sequentially updated on its official website.

High Speed Zoom Line

High Speed Zoom Line offers the constant aperture of T2 throughout the zoom range, and the optical performance is ready for high-resolution shooting such as 6K - 8K. Furthermore, while offering the highest image quality in its class, the High Speed Zoom Line has a compact construction and offers amazing value.

FF Zoom Line

FF Zoom Line is compatible with a full-frame image circle, and the optical performance is ready for high-resolution shooting such as 6K - 8K. It provides a rare option for cinematographers since very few lenses can cater to the requirements of the latest digital cinema cameras' image sensor, which is larger than Super 35, and expand the range of compatible cameras. This is the cinema zoom lens offering the highest image quality and compact design. This lens is not available in PL mount.

FF High Speed Prime Line

The lineup ranges from 20mm to 85mm, and all five lenses are T1.5. They are compatible with full-frame sensors and, while being more compact, can offer superior resolution than other high-end prime sets do. With the five prime lenses from FF High Speed Prime Line, there is no need to change the lighting to shoot a variety of cuts. These lenses bring a consistent level of light to the production and offer greater consistency with regards to the film’s look and color/contrast before it enters post-production.

Each CINE lens model is weatherproof and has luminous paint markings to aid in changing and operating the lens in the dark. It touts a long focus rotation of 180 degrees and is guided by cams for smooth operation and accuracy. The CINE lens design features standardized essentials such as an 82mm front for ND filters* and a 95mm front diameter for matte box use and standard gear positions for accessories like follow focus. They also include a manual linear iris control and electronic mounts that provide vital camera metadata. Each lens is manufactured and inspected in the Sigma factory located in Aizu, Japan.

Sigma Corporation of America, a leading researcher, developer, manufacturer and service provider of some of the world's most impressive lines of lenses, cameras and flashes, today announced its newest addition to the Sigma Art line of lenses for full-frame cameras, the 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM.

True to its categorization as a Sigma Art lens, the new 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM is designed for artistic expression and top-notch image quality. This versatile lens covers the basic shooting range from wide to medium tele with an inner focusing system that eliminates front lens rotation, enhancing the lens stability and allowing the use of circular polarizing filters. It also boasts a constant aperture of F4, and contains Sigma’s proprietary Optical Stabilizer (OS) technology to compensate for camera shake. Moreover, it was designed to surpass the required quality inspection of every Global Vision lens with Sigma’s own modulation transfer function (MTF) “A1” measuring system to create new optical standard to align with the high-spec cameras on today’s market.

“For many years, Sigma users have been seeking a standard zoom lens in this range,” said Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America. “The 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM is yet another example of Sigma listening to its users and delivering new and innovative products with the highest image quality.”

Amir-Hamzeh added that this new lens combines the largest possible fixed aperture to zoom ratio that will maintain optimal integrity for many kinds of photography, including landscapes, architecture, portraiture and still-life. With a minimum focusing distance of 45cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.6, this lens is also excellent for close-up photography. High-performance glass elements, including SLD, FLD, which is equal to fluorite, and glass- molded single- and double-sided aspheric lenses have been included into the optical system to prevent aberration, field curvature, distortions and color aberration. The 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM lens is also able to suppress chromatic aberration very effectively at the telephoto-end, and can achieve superior image quality throughout the zoom range. Unlike lenses with similar specifications, this lens overcomes low peripheral brightness. Although it is designed for full frame cameras, it also works with APS-C sensors, giving an increase to focal length.

The lens’ Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures a silent, high-speed auto focus function and enables full-time manual focusing capability. The 24-105mm is also compatible with Sigma’s USB dock allowing photographers to update its firmware and change focus parameters using Sigma's Optimization Pro software. It is also compatible with Sigma’s recently announced Mount Conversion Service.

Anyone using GH1/2 with SIGMA 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC Macro? Any impressions about this lens? What I mean generally is if there are any issues like vignettes, tilts, blurs, unable to infinity focus, etc. when used on GH1. I watched very nice results with this lens on t2i, so is it needless on GH1 even manually controlled?

Sigma Corporation of America, a leading researcher, developer, manufacturer and service provider of some of the world's most impressive lines of lenses, cameras and flashes, today announced the new Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens, the ninth Global Vision lens to join the company’s iconic Art line-up. The announcement comes at the start of the CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging Show 2015, which begins on Feb. 12 in Yokohama, Japan.

The much anticipated 24mm F1.4 Art wide angle lens is designed for full-frame DSLRs, and when used on digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor, it effectively becomes a 38mm. The lens is ideal for capturing a variety of photography subjects, including cityscapes, mountain ranges, astrophotography and weddings and is great for videography work as well. The 24mm also excels at indoor photography in low illumination thanks to the combination of exceptional focal plane sharpness, and gorgeous bokeh rendered by nine rounded aperture blades. The lens achieves a maximum magnification of 1:5.3 with a minimum focusing distance of 9.8 inches. The 24mm incorporates both "F" Low Dispersion (FLD) glass and Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass in a design of 15 elements in 11 groups to minimize chromatic aberration of magnification especially in the edge of the image field. Moreover, the optimized power layout includes aspherical elements that are positioned in the rear of the lens for improved wide open performance. This helps to ensure minimal distortion through the correction of axial chromatic aberration and sagittal coma flare. The new lens element design also delivers excellent peripheral brightness.

“The Sigma Art lenses are recognized by photographers for world-class performance, and the new 24mm F1.4 DG HSM will be a significant contribution to our selection of fast aperture prime lenses which is quickly becoming a strong force in the industry” said Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America. “Sigma is redefining the expectations of fast-aperture full-frame prime lens performance, especially wide-open, and the results the 24mm F1.4 will deliver will be up to the exacting standards set by the 35mm F1.4 DG HSM and 50mm F1.4 DG HSM .”

Other updates to this lens include a new full-time manual focusing mechanism that switches to manual focusing, simply by rotating the focus ring, even when AF is being used, first introduced on the 50mm Art. This allows the photographer to make focus adjustments quickly and easily. As with all new lenses under the Global Vision categories, every 24mm will be tested using Sigma’s own MTF measuring system, “A1,” in the company’s factory in Japan.

Other lenses in the Art line include 35mm F1.4 DG HSM, 30mm F1.4 DC HSM, 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM, 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM, 50mm F1.4 DG HSM, 19mm F2.8 DN, 30mm F2.8 DN and 60mm F2.8 DN.

The 24mm F1.4 is compatible with Sigma’s USB dock, allowing photographers to update the lens’ firmware and change focus parameters as well as manual focus over-ride using Sigma's Optimization Pro software. It is also compatible with Sigma’s Mount Conversion Service. The lens will be available in Canon, Nikon and Sigma mounts, and timing, pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the new generation of high image quality compact cameras “SIGMA dp” that incorporates a newly developed Foveon X3 direct image sensor (generation name: “Quattro”).

Unique and without peer among image sensors, the Foveon direct image sensor is similar to traditional color film in that its multiple layers capture all of the information that visible light transmits. Along with Sigma’s proprietary image processing technology, this sensor produces incredible resolution, precise gradation, gorgeous color, breathtaking realism with a 3D feel. In other words, full-bodied image quality.

For the new dp series, we rethought and redesigned every aspect of the camera, including the sensor, engine, lens, and body. While retaining its famous textural expression, which seems to give form to the air itself, the updated Foveon direct image sensor produces images that are more colorful, rich, deep, and faithful than ever before.

To a radical degree, the new-generation dp series embodies Sigma’s philosophy of creating cameras that produce works of art. Featuring the highest level of fundamental performance, this series unites artistic expression and daily experience as no other cameras can.

Special Features

With every element optimized for image quality, this camera is ready to produce works of art

Thanks to its optimized design featuring a fixed focal length lens and integrated body, the dp series offers both sensor and lens performance at the highest level. The result is full-bodied image quality.

In addition to superior holding performance, the camera body offers a balanced shape, layout, and weight distribution. With all of its elements designed for image quality, the dp offers highly intuitive operation. Its complete and robust specification allows the photographer to concentrate fully on photography itself and leverage the camera’s potential to produce outstanding images.

In everyday life, the dp series lets photographers find unexpected opportunities for experiencing emotion and enjoy photography and personal expression in exciting new ways. It is an outwardly simple yet extremely powerful embodiment of Sigma’s philosophy of photography.

Wide-angle, standard, and medium telephoto options

All of the fundamental photographic approaches in one lineup of three cameras

The dp series comprises three fixed focal length cameras, each of which features a different basic focal length for a different fundamental photographic approach: the wide-angle dp1 Quattro at 19mm, the standard dp2 Quattro at 30mm, and the medium telephoto dp3 Quattro at 50mm (respectively equivalent to 28mm, 45mm, and 75mm on a 35mm lens). Moreover, the three models share an exciting new camera body that brings out the best performance from the lens and image sensor.

It’s a simple but powerful lineup that delivers medium format-level image quality anywhere, anytime. Take all three with you and select as needed for the perfect shot. Only the dp series puts so much luxurious photographic potential in your hands.

The world’s only image capture system to use vertical color separation technology

Starting with our very first digital camera, we have featured the Foveon direct image sensor, which offers radically better image quality than any other sensor available. Leveraging the light absorption characteristics of silicon, the sensor comprises three layers of photodiodes, each at a different depth within the silicon and each corresponding to a different RGB color. Since it is the only sensor to use this superior vertical color separation technology, it is also the world’s only direct image sensor.

Almost all other image sensors are mosaic sensors, which use an array of RGB color filters in a single horizontal plane to capture color information. Each pixel is assigned only one of the three colors and cannot capture all three colors at once. In contrast, the Foveon direct image sensor captures color vertically, recording hue, value, and chroma accurately and completely for each pixel.

In the Foveon direct image sensor, there are no color filters, which cause a loss of information transmitted by light. Moreover, there is no low-pass filter needed to correct the interference caused by a color filter array. Finally, unlike the data from other sensors, which requires artificial interpolation to “fill in” missing colors, the data from the Foveon direct image sensor is complete for every single pixel and requires no interpolation. The unique technological principle of this sensor produces consistently outstanding image quality.

Newly developed Foveon X3 Quattro direct image sensor. Now featuring 39 megapixel-equivalent ultrahigh resolution

Capturing the information transmitted by light vertically instead of horizontally, the full-color image capture system of the Foveon direct image sensor is the only one of its kind in the world. This system makes possible the sensor’s full-bodied image quality, which is characterized by rich tone and gradation and texture that one can almost touch.

image

The newly developed Foveon X3 Quattro is the latest generation of this unique sensor. While retaining the distinctive characteristics of its predecessors, it offers an even higher level of image quality. In addition to 30% higher resolution, the volume of image data has become lighter, and it enables much faster image processing and lower current consumption.

At the same time, Able to maintain the same exacting standard of image quality while increasing megapixels and enhancing noise characteristics, this 1:1:4 solution was the inspiration for the name of the current generation of Foveon sensor: “Quattro.”

Newly developed TRUE III image processing engine. Optimized for processing Foveon X3 Quattro direct image sensor data.

The new dp series cameras feature the newly developed TRUE (Three-layer Responsive Ultimate Engine) III. This image processing engine has evolved in pace with our Foveon direct image sensor and incorporates all of the image processing expertise we have developed over the years. Thanks to new refinements, it is the ideal engine for processing the rich and complex image data produced by the new-generation Foveon X3 Quattro direct image sensor. Our proprietary algorithm makes possible ultrafast processing of an immense volume of image data without any deterioration of the final images. The result is high-definition, 3D-like photographs with outstandingly rich color detail.

Adapting very old sigma canon lens to Sony a6500? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17173/adapting-very-old-sigma-canon-lens-to-sony-a6500 Sat, 17 Jun 2017 11:31:47 +0000 fatpig 17173@/talks/discussions I recently snatched the Sigma High Speed Wide ASPHERICAL 28mm 1.8 for a very good price. It is made for old canon cameras from the analog age. Tried adapting it to my a6500 with the viltrox adapter. No electronic connection. Will now try a non-focal-reducing adapter by commlite. Are there any other speedbooster options out there except for metabones? maybe one with a built in aperture?

thanks guys!

(62mm to 72mm). Also, will it work fine with a Canon 70-200 (77mm front) & Sigma 50-100 ART (82mm). Body is Panasonic GH4.

Someone has a video here which seems to work with the 1.33x version.

Thanks in advance.

1. Contemporary line that covers a wide range of photography

SIGMA is organizing all its interchangeable lenses into three product lines; Contemporary, Art and Sports. Among the three, the Contemporary line is a high performance line which incorporates the very latest technology making it possible to accommodate both high optical performance and compactness for use in various photography situations. Sigma has solved the difficult problem of keeping the size and weight down without compromising optical performance and function with the latest technology. This lens covers frequently used wide-angle to tele-photo, as well as macro photography.

2. New standard zoom up to 200mm

SIGMA has always been producing a high performance standard zoom lens, dedicated for digital DSLR cameras, that covers up to 200mm by reflecting the latest technology.

In 2005, SIGMA released 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC as a smallest and lightest all-rounder lens in class that covers from wide-angle to tele-photo range. SIGMA, in 2007, incorporated OS (Optical Stabilization) functionality, and in 2011, has successfully made the size of the lens even more compact.

Now, this new lens has been redeveloped as the standard zoom lens from SIGMA’s new product line, which has higher performance, is even smaller and lighter-weight, and on top of that, includes “the macro feature”. As an entry level interchangeable lens, it is capable of many photographic scenes.

3. Diameter reduced by 4.6mm compared to its predecessor

We pursued the compactness as an ideal everyday lens. From an early stage of development, SIGMA was determined to make the lens size compact, for example, by incorporating double-sided aspherical lens elements and downsizing the motor. As a result, while the predecessor had a diameter of 75.3mm, this lens has reduced it to 70.7mm, which has the difference of 4.6mm. It also achieves -11% in volume ratio compared to its predecessor. It is one of the smallest in its class of lenses with more than a 7x zoom ratio, and is more comparable in size to a generic standard zoom lenses.

4. High rendering performance throughout the entire zoom range

With our Contemporary line, the lens is required to fulfill the maximum potential while achieving a compact and light-weight construction. This lens incorporates SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements that have a high refractive index, and corrects chromatic aberration at the telephoto-end very well. Moreover, aspherical lens elements, including double-sided aspherical lenses, ensure a compact size and excellent correction of distortion. This also helps to produce superior rendering performance throughout the entire zoom range from wide-angle to tele-photo and macro photography.

5. Close-up photography

One of the biggest features of this lens is that it is possible to shoot subjects as close as Macro lenses. This lens features a minimum focusing distance of 39cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3. It offers the versatility for shooting close-ups of fashion accessories, cuisine, flower arrangements and much more without changing the lens. Its working distance is 14.7cm, and it is suitable for shooing images with natural light as it keeps the shadows of camera and lens off of the image. On its lens barrel, it indicates the maximum shooting magnification at each focal length, and it is so convenient for a photographer that the size of the object in the image sensor becomes easily recognizable. Uncompromising in every aspect of lens design, Sigma has even chosen to engrave the product name on the front of the lens to prevent reflections of the letters during close-up photography.

6. Incorporating new composite TSC

In product development of cameras and lenses, it is crucial to lay out main components, metal parts and polycarbonate, to optimize and ensure each feature. This lens has incorporated TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) that has the same level of thermal shrinkage as aluminum and little elasticity, especially in temperature changes. Since thermal shrinkage is low, it has a high affinity to metal parts that contributes to high precision in product manufacturing. It also results in slimmer mechanical parts, such as the zoom ring and scaling.

What do you thing guys about using Sigma 18-35 1.8 only wide open on GH2 (yes i want Canon version). It is enough sharp for wide scenes (18mm i mean)? And are the cheaper adapters with build-in aperture vignetting? Sorry for my english.

Sigma's SD1 (Flagship) Foveon Camera - Prices tumble https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10800/sigmas-sd1-flagship-foveon-camera-prices-tumble Tue, 15 Jul 2014 07:19:12 +0000 goanna 10800@/talks/discussions Sigma seems to be finally generating attention for its Foveon range of cameras - so much the better if it generates for them the cash they'll needed for R&D if we ever want to see faster Foveon cameras.

Many understand the Foveon advantage: you can get a prize-winning, unforgettable picture, just once in a while, because of the aesthetic edge the sensor gives. The processors are slow; you'll have to convert the RAW to get that super-real look. You wait up to 6 seconds for the camera to write to its SD card. There's no video.

( I can imagine the Hitler-in-bunker subtitles film excerpt where the fuhrer invites all who want fast, cheap cameras with video to leave the room - and only two remain. This then, is for those two of us remaining in the bunker ;-)

The ~$600 DP1,2 and 3 series (Merril) produce fixed-lens shots which look as good as the (previously around $10,000) SLR Sigma SD1

Now there are the newer, boxy looking Dp' s in the ring as well- with pretty much the same sensor/processor as the big SD1. So nobody much bought the expensive SD1 one unless they were rich - or else sure of a certain job or shoot which would recoup the purchase price in one go - as well as come up with the winning shots.

But that's chanced recently; The same, once £5,3000 / $11,000 SD1 has starting popping up for sale at prices down by around 85% Off Now as low as$AUD1,400 !! (US$1250) Time to compare them again!

from http://fotogenerellinternational.wordpress.com/2013/04/10/comparison-sigma-dp2m-vs-sigma-sd1-30mm-f1-4/

Both the Sigma DP2m and SD1 are fine cameras which appeal to different target groups and which reach top forms under different conditions. The DP2m is a compact camera capable of astonishing image quality – the full format for the jacket pocket, so to speak. This compactness comes with disadvantages as well, lenses cannot be changed, one has to make do with a fixed normal focal length. The SD1 is equipped with the same Foveon sensor and performs similarly, but having a lens mount, it provides the possibility of changing lenses in order to be all geared up for any motif whatsoever. What happens, however, if one mounts the Sigma 30mm f1.4 onto the SD1, thus creating equal opportunities (as much as this is even possible with such different cameras) and let them compete against each other.
