For a gh3, what's a reasonable setup that will work? What's appropriate, movi-type or steady cam type of setup?

Thanks!

Affordable Counterweight Solutions https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7872/affordable-counterweight-solutions Sat, 24 Aug 2013 00:06:04 +0000 wgtwo 7872@/talks/discussions Been looking into adding a counterweight to my cheapo Chinese shoulder mount and haven't really been able to find anything satisfactory. I live in Australia, so I am fairly limited in what I have access to; would love to pick up one of these: http://opteka.com/cbw2.aspx, but that would cost $90, which is absurd.

Not too keen on the whole DIY lead diving weight idea on account of lead being poisonous and all. Don't particularly need a V-Mount battery pack for anything.

Any ideas? Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

Stuck Rig Part on Fotga DP500 2 Follow Focus https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7696/stuck-rig-part-on-fotga-dp500-2-follow-focus Tue, 06 Aug 2013 00:00:44 +0000 matt_gh2 7696@/talks/discussions I've got a Fotga DP500 2 follow focus - it's very good - got it on PV deals here. It's on a rig with rails (Beginner Rig from deals as well). Problem is, if I want to switch lenses, I can't get the part that attaches to the rails to loosen up enough to slide the follow focus down the rail. The part that attaches to the rails seems to be locked on there. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Coldshoe for cage that mounts from the top? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7392/coldshoe-for-cage-that-mounts-from-the-top Sun, 30 Jun 2013 19:48:58 +0000 AndersM 7392@/talks/discussions Hi,

I have a Wooden Camera cage for my GH3. Quite expensive, but great quality/form factor. I'm looking for some cold shoes to mount to the cage, but most I find mounts to a male 1/4-20 and not a female which would make it easier to mount to the cage. Wooden Camera makes one themselves, but at $25 for one, they are quite expensive. http://woodencamera.corecommerce.com/1-4-20-Hot-Shoe.html

So I'm basically looking for a cheaper version of that one.

Anyone know of any?

Thanks!

I don't like breaking down the rig and taking off camera to put in pelican case, and then taking off lens to put in pelican case. Is it okay to just leave my camera rig, with camera and lens, out on a table, or should it be broken down and stored in my pelican case?

Review of Beginner's Rig from Deals https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6347/review-of-beginners-rig-from-deals Wed, 06 Mar 2013 16:18:47 +0000 matt_gh2 6347@/talks/discussions I just received the $109 Beginner's Rig that I ordered from the weekend catchit deals here on personal-view.com. It's a basic shoulder rig. First off, the construction is pretty damn solid. Everything is sturdy and the knobs twist well and hold everything tightly. Handle pads are good. Shoulder pad good as well. Only takes 5 minutes to assemble - very easy. Shipping was pretty quick from China - around 10-15 days as promised. Didn't hear from shipper after 3 days, so emailed and got a very quick response with a USPS tracking number.

The rest of what I have to say is probably influenced by fact that I've never used a shoulder rig. I was able to get some pretty stable stationary shots at times, but sometimes they weren't the most stable. That's probably me not getting used to the rig yet. I did get some beautifully smooth panning and tilting shots, and was able to get those consistently. I have one of those cheap $15 dollar "matte box"/shades, and it fit right onto the rails. But that made me have to push the camera closer to my eye, so it felt too close to see LCD properly. So I actually slid the shoulder pad back, and slightly off the rails (1/3 off, 2/3 on), and all seemed good. If I go with this as a working solution, a bit of tape on pad to rails to ensure no pad slippage should work just fine. I also did some shots walking with the rig, and got mixed results, but that's probably just me not walking properly...and I suppose a stabilizer is really the correct tool for handheld walking shots (or proper dolly/track setup).

Bottom line - if you want a solidly constructed shoulder rig and really don't want to be paying a lot of money, I would definitely recommend this, and at $109 including shipping, it's a pretty damn good deal. @Vitaliy_Kiselev Thanks for this deal. That's 2 for 2 with the deals. (Also ordered the 312AS LED lights and they are great)

Cheap Filmcity Shoulder support Rig (FC-10W) or alternatives https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5602/cheap-filmcity-shoulder-support-rig-fc-10w-or-alternatives Fri, 28 Dec 2012 15:08:28 +0000 glebnagorny 5602@/talks/discussions Hi,

I am planning to buy my first shoulder rig for GH2. I don't have much budget and I don't need anything fancy. Just something that would work without major issues with a possible upgrade to follow focus and matte box later on.

I found Filmcity Shoulder support Rig (FC-10W), which seems like a good option for a cheap price - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Filmcity-Shoulder-Support-Mount-Rig-For-DV-DSLR-camera-Follow-focus-matte-Box-/370723716620?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item5650dafe0c

There are some videos with it on youtube -

and

There is also an option with 1kg weight, which costs about £20 pounds more - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FILMCITY-Shoulder-Support-Mount-Rig-Rods-with-weights-For-DSLR-Video-Matte-box-/370722001848?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5650c0d3b8 I could not find any cheaper solutions with weight, do you think it is worth extra 20£?

Does anyone have experience with it? What do you think about this rig? I am also considering alternatives, like "beginners rig" in CatchIT deals and Fotga rig (to which I can buy most of the parts separetely and which would be more expensive, starting with this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DP500-II-Rail-System-15mm-Rod-Rig-Baseplate-Support-DSLR-Camcorder-Mattebox-5D-2-/330794357528?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d04e15318 )

Thanks.

GH2 Rig with tutorial on counterweight https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4996/gh2-rig-with-tutorial-on-counterweight Thu, 25 Oct 2012 22:25:16 +0000 cordvision 4996@/talks/discussions Hello Everybody I recently put a GH2 Rig together that balances pretty good. I wanted to share it and also give you a short tutorial on how to create a pretty cheap DIY counterweight. image

I decided to make my own counterweight and it turned out to be pretty straight forward. What you need:

1x 15mm Rod Clamp ($15) (I used one from a Gini Lens support, which already has pre-drilled screw wholes)

1x Project Box (ca. $5) (you can buy them on eBay, Radio Shack, or any other store that carries electronics etc. Preferably it has at least one side made off metal)

1x Weighs (ca. $7) (I got some led for cheap from ebay)

2x Screws ($.20) (I found screws that perfectly fit the pre-drilled wholes of the 15mm Gini rod clamp)

All you have to do, is to drill two wholes trough the project box so you can attach the Rod Clamp and you are pretty much done. Fill the box with as much weight as you need, and make sure to stuff the remaining space with some padding so nothing moves. I used bubble wrap, but you could use paper, foam or anything else that is similar.

As you can see, it is a cheap, simple, yet flexible solution and even looks decent...

Rig Recommendations https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4878/rig-recommendations Fri, 12 Oct 2012 20:19:59 +0000 Tyler_Bailey 4878@/talks/discussions I've been looking at a lot of rigs recently because a recent job has required me to upgrade from pulling focus from my barrel and going straight hand-held. My budget isn't low nor is it too high (something like $300-$500) and I want something that is sturdy and will last me a while. I'm not too concerned about a matte box but if it comes in a bundle, that's fine.

I'm looking for a sturdy and somewhat weighted shoulder rig with versatility in regards to being attached and removed quickly from a tripod and room for attaching other accessories such as a follow focus, on-board monitor and perhaps hdmi splitter or maybe a microphone on an articulating arm.

I've worked with Jag-35 and I'm almost tempted to get a field runner they have for almost $500 but maybe there's something better I can work with that is more sturdy and reliable.

Quick Release solutions for One Camera and multiple Devices? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4717/quick-release-solutions-for-one-camera-and-multiple-devices Wed, 26 Sep 2012 00:31:15 +0000 goanna 4717@/talks/discussions There are plenty of Quick release solutions available - but most involve some kind of vendor lock-in.

This video doesn't help re a universal solution; like most, it simply encourages buyers to buy an entire matching set of devices. But at least it gets the one camera > many devices message across.

Does anyone know of a solid DSLR system where you could ideally buy, say, Several Base Plates (AKA clamps) with (1) camera plate?

That way, we'd have a camera plate on our camera, which stays on. There's a tripod waiting with a base plate assembly already attached; also a stabiliser, a shoulder rig and a triangle dolly - all with base-plates ready for truly quick attaching of the camera.

Now, is that too much to ask, without buying a plethora of camera plates/base plate sets, each in its own blister pack?

DSLR RIG "Wondlan Sniper 2.0 (Deluxe 3)" for sale! https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4563/dslr-rig-wondlan-sniper-2.0-deluxe-3-for-sale Thu, 13 Sep 2012 03:27:45 +0000 sir_danish 4563@/talks/discussions I´m selling my 8 months old and almost unused Rig from Wondlan. Location: Austria (Europe)

Included parts:

mattebox (the professional version of Wondlan´s matteboxes) --- follow focus + whip --- sholder pad --- baseplate --- hd monitor (type c) with resulution 1042x600 --- magic handgrip --- upper handle --- aluminum box --- power supply system --- front handles ---

The price here in Europe (including customs and taxes) is about 2000€ for this set. You can google it and convince yourself.

The reason for the sell is a malfunction of the front handles. They are not very stable, meaning you can´t tighten the screws as much as necessary. But this shouldn´t be a big problem, as you can replace them with other handles from the same or a different manufacturer. The rest of the Rig works fine and is absolutely sturdy!

Price: 640€

Best regards, Daniel
