I am having a peculiar issue with the camera. When i scroll down to the PLAYBACK option and then use the right ARROW key to enter the PLAYBACK menu's many options the screen goes black for a second (similar to the black screen delay which happens when we go from the MENU to the LIVE DISPLAY mode which is normal). Also if i go from the Live Display mode to the MENU by clicking the center button and if i had exit the MENU screen last from the PLAYBACK menu then again the slight delay black screen thing will happen if i toggle to the PLAYBACK menu's options. This does not happen when i scroll to the other Options in the menus like SETUP, MOTION PICTURE, CUSTOM etc. or if i enter MENU screen from Live Display mode in these options or Vice Versa. I also updated my firmware to 2.2 but it did not help. And NO, i am not accidentally placing my hand in front of the EVF of the camera which is causing the black out.

Is it some issue with the camera or is there some option in the menu that can fix this? Thanks

DVD burning for playback in Europe and US https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12953/dvd-burning-for-playback-in-europe-and-us Fri, 08 May 2015 14:33:58 +0000 matt_gh2 12953@/talks/discussions Hi,

I need to burn some DVDs that can be played by people who will be in Europe and US. If I burn onto a blank DVD-R that I bought in US, will it play in both European and US DVD players? Do I need to get disks that are of a certain Region?

Thanks, Matt

Benefits to 280MB/s SD cards for GH2 (or other camera) users? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11150/benefits-to-280mbs-sd-cards-for-gh2-or-other-camera-users Thu, 28 Aug 2014 14:19:51 +0000 matt_gh2 11150@/talks/discussions Anyone know if there's any benefit to those 280 MB/s SD cards for GH2(or other camera) users? I've been using the Sandisk 64GB 95MB/s without much trouble, but wondered if the faster 280 MB/s cards might increase the possibility for in-camera playback on settings/patches that sometimes don't playback on the 95 MB/s cards? Any other benefits to these 280 cards? Thanks.

Jitter/choppy playback - solution? GH4 same issue? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10140/jitterchoppy-playback-solution-gh4-same-issue Fri, 11 Apr 2014 07:42:08 +0000 cogumelo 10140@/talks/discussions I'm still having trouble to playback MOV 1080 60p footage from my GH3 on my macs (a macbook retina displays and a MacPro 8core 24GB Ram). Those files playback normally on the camera, but it's quite choppy or jittery on my computer, specially on pan movements. Does it has a solution? conversion or transcoding? Is it a mac problem? a codec problem? or GH3 problem? I also got jitter recoding on all setting of 1080 60p, using my other camera, NEX 5N, that also records 1080 60p AVCHD I got no problems at all, the files playbacks just right, but I also think the NEX footage is 59,94i converted on camera to 60p or 59,94p... I don't now... I think if maybe the gh3 were capable to records 60i in MOV mode it wouldn't happen.... I think the problem is due the progressive fields, or YUV to RGB conversion problem....I don't know... because when I transcode the files using 5dtoRGB software, it gets better, less jitter, but they still there! If we're having trouble to playback 1080p 60p, can you imagine what gonna happen with the 4k files? I've pre-order a GH4, but I'm thinking twice if it's worth to... I don't want more headache with playback issues... I'm thinking to move to Sony A7s.... That's SAD!!! Anyone knows the real reason why we can't playback those files??? what should I say to my clients that got choppy footage? my camera is rubbish! or your computer is rubbish!??? WTF? That's just sad!

GH2 can't playback after being returned to stock firmware https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6720/gh2-cant-playback-after-being-returned-to-stock-firmware Wed, 17 Apr 2013 02:45:28 +0000 jonmarcos 6720@/talks/discussions I have a GH2 that was hacked and running the 88 patch. While shooting the battery ran out and the camera shut down. When I put in the fresh battery, I could record no problem, but i could no longer do any playback. When I got home I returned the camera to the original firmware, but not matter what I do I cannot get the camera to go into playback mode. Every time I hit the playback button the screen goes black and I get the SLEEP CANCEL" message. When I try and change the settings in the playback menu, it won't let me and the menu mode closes and goes back to shooting mode. I've tried everything, card reformatting, shooting in different modes, and resetting all settings, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions?

Can't playback videos https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6447/cant-playback-videos Wed, 20 Mar 2013 08:42:56 +0000 Nori 6447@/talks/discussions Hey there, GH2 + 128 Gb Sandisk (45Mb/S). I hope I'm in the good section for my question. After hacked my GH2, I have troubles with Playing back my videos on the GH2. Sometimes it writes me 'Can't playback video'. The hack consisted using ptoo3.66d (beta) changed the bitrate to 88Mb, AQ=4 and PAL/NTSC Menu. I checked the integrity of the card, no errors found. No errors during recording videos (at least, no messages or breaks). May be my possible error was I put Increment to 12 and after rehacking it I put Increment 10. Someone already met this problem ? Best,

Improving speed in Premiere Pro CS5 https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5951/improving-speed-in-premiere-pro-cs5 Tue, 29 Jan 2013 16:28:34 +0000 Brian_Siano 5951@/talks/discussions My system's a quad-core 3.2mhz machine, with an Nvidia Geforce 670 card (lots of CUDA) and more than enough memory. Sadly, though, the playback of my AVHCD files is frustrating; sometimes, even playing at quarter-resolution turns choppy. (That may be because the files are very long, and the compression algorithm requires a lot of back and forth.)

Anyway, I'm looking to get better performance without having up upgrade the system, and it appears that there may be 2 strategies. The first is to set up a RAID disk system for video editing. The second is to convert my video files to a less-compressed, more intraframe-like format, so playback may be faster, and edit that. So I have a few questions.

  1. Let's say I want to take my hi-def AVHCD files, and render copies in another format that PP can play back faster. Is there a video format that'd work for this purpose?

  2. How much can a decent RAID system speed up playback in Premiere Pro?

  3. Which is preferred; SATA drives hooked to the motherboard, or USB 3.0 drives?

Visual ideas for shooting live music performance https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5763/visual-ideas-for-shooting-live-music-performance Sun, 13 Jan 2013 08:35:42 +0000 Mark_the_Harp 5763@/talks/discussions I think this is a great example of a simple video of a performance. I'm guessing it was probably done in more than one take, but what I really love is the use of focus pulls, particularly where several "planes" are involved, and also the shots of the performers at the start of the video. It captures perfectly what goes through your mind as a performer before starting a piece.

This is a link to the facebook page - I can't find out where the original source video is so you'll have to visit the page to see this. Well worth it, though, for anyone considering doing video of performance, just for some ideas.

While you can do an imaginative video using all sorts of locations and parallel stories, I think it's a challenge to do an interesting video of performers which just concentrates on them throughout. I really like what they've done here and would be interested in seeing any other examples of video which is confined to the one location.

Ultrastudio Express vs Ultrastudio 3d https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4565/ultrastudio-express-vs-ultrastudio-3d Thu, 13 Sep 2012 06:02:07 +0000 mlysbakken 4565@/talks/discussions Does anyone know if there is any major difference between Ultrastudio Express and Ultrastudio 3d, apart from 3d-playback and 4:4:4 capture? I know Ultrastudio 3d makes it possible for a MacBook Pro to perform smoothly with DaVinci Resolve (so that you can grade on the fly), but I haven't found any information regarding the limits of the Ultrastudio Express. Does it boost the real time performance of your NLE's and grading software, or does it just capture and play back?

High Bitrate, Direct In camera playback, and Pasadena https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3939/high-bitrate-direct-in-camera-playback-and-pasadena Tue, 17 Jul 2012 10:05:47 +0000 Mckinise 3939@/talks/discussions I am looking for a stable patch that provides a high bit rate and the ability to directly playback in cam without the need to switch it off first. I am also wanting to implement the Pasadena sound settings.

I am more interested in stability and direct playback than push the camera to its limits. As far as the sound hack goes I am just trying to limit or eliminate the Automatic Gain Control (AGC).

Playback issues with Premiere exported footage https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/457/playback-issues-with-premiere-exported-footage Fri, 22 Jul 2011 00:32:13 +0000 azza_act 457@/talks/discussions Preset: H.264 HDTV 24p
1920x 1080p
Fps: 23.976
VBR: 2 pass
Target bit rate: 32
Max: 40
I've used this settings with the GH2 for six months, never had any issues. Now, when Pr finishs exporting i can play the H.264 file back in window 7 media palyer, no issues. But when i play it on both of my WD media players via my USB key, on one WD palyer its doesn't work at all and on the other is freezes on heavy pans of trees and the footage is just overall jerky (all of the footage was shot handheld, 24h. but on the PC it's fine)
Is it my export setting or hardware? ( hardware being the PS3 and WD players, which i'm worried about cos i can't use that hack on pro jobs fearful that the client doesn't have to correct/latest gear to watch the footage on. I give some of my clients H.264 files so they can watch on there TVs, computers and media players)

Any thoughts?

cheers
