Again no Manual video controls...maybe next Nex 5 ...but I doubt it.
Aperture,exposure,white balance have been replaced with background defocus,brightness & colour in case y'know people are too dim to understand DSLR terminology (yet Sony say its a bridge between compacts & Dslrs haha) yet smaller design (dont they realise once you slap a lens on it you lose all portability...all a smaller body does is lose practicality with detachable lens cameras)
All I can really see is all theyve done is dumb things down more ,change the body to look less boxy (Sony think this is a upgrade)
if people want a point and shoot they would probably just get a compact.
Least many years ago when pentax released the auto 110 they had small lenses to go with it.
Sorry for the rant but the way things are going with the camera (along with gf3) size war/dumbing down is stupid.

C-Mount Speed Booster?

Does anyone know of a way to get a Speed Boosted image from a C-Mount camera? I'd rather use one official Metabones Speed Booster with a second adapter than having it all in one generic Speed Booster adapter, but I'll take all idea's. Metabones currently makes MFT, NEX/E-Mount, and Fuji X Speed Boosters, so ideally I'm looking for one of those mounts to C-Mount. I'm having trouble finding such an adapter. Thanks.

Jitter/choppy playback - solution? GH4 same issue?

I'm still having trouble to playback MOV 1080 60p footage from my GH3 on my macs (a macbook retina displays and a MacPro 8core 24GB Ram). Those files playback normally on the camera, but it's quite choppy or jittery on my computer, specially on pan movements. Does it has a solution? conversion or transcoding? Is it a mac problem? a codec problem? or GH3 problem? I also got jitter recoding on all setting of 1080 60p, using my other camera, NEX 5N, that also records 1080 60p AVCHD I got no problems at all, the files playbacks just right, but I also think the NEX footage is 59,94i converted on camera to 60p or 59,94p... I don't now... I think if maybe the gh3 were capable to records 60i in MOV mode it wouldn't happen.... I think the problem is due the progressive fields, or YUV to RGB conversion problem....I don't know... because when I transcode the files using 5dtoRGB software, it gets better, less jitter, but they still there! If we're having trouble to playback 1080p 60p, can you imagine what gonna happen with the 4k files? I've pre-order a GH4, but I'm thinking twice if it's worth to... I don't want more headache with playback issues... I'm thinking to move to Sony A7s.... That's SAD!!! Anyone knows the real reason why we can't playback those files??? what should I say to my clients that got choppy footage? my camera is rubbish! or your computer is rubbish!??? WTF? That's just sad!

NEX (5N, 6, 7, A6000, A3000, A5000, etc) with the SEL 35mm f1.8 or Lumix GX7/GM1 with the PanaLeica 25mm f1.4

Although this forum is focused mostly in the video, my question is for still photography, but equally valid for the video. I love make street photo and usually I do night street photos with my NEX-5N accompanied by Sigma 30mm f2.8 and Zuiko 50mm f1.4 with ambient light and I doubt as the new sensor of Panasonic with the PanaLeica lens.

And I would think in this exercise, both cameras at ISO 1,600, 3,200 and 6,400 at the street in the night, both lens at full aperture, the PanaLeica is faster, but the Sony sensor is larger and has theoretically advantage. but the new sensor of Panasonic seems has cut the distance respect to the NEX.

Shootout between Sony A65 vs GH2

Essentially the Sony A65 is the same for image quality in video mode as the NEX 7 and A77. It has a superior sensor to the GH2 but doesn't do a very good job scaling and codec wise - so the GH2 resolves a cleaner looking image with more detail and less aliasing and moire.

However where I feel the A65 wins is...

- CHEAP!! £699 in the UK compared to £1300 for the A77, but same great OLED viewfinder, same sensor, same image processor, 95% of the same features but a plastic body
- Internal stabilisation - Your cheap £50 300mm Minolta becomes as good as an OIS Canon lens. Your £100 fast 50mm F1.8 gets stabilisation for free. Not bad!!
- Handling. I prefer the bigger body to the NEX 5N really
- 1080/50p and 25p in PAL land
- MF peaking, great EVF and 920k LCD

I am also going to be testing a Nikon J1 soon. I feel this is prime for a good hacking Sir @Vitaliy_Kiselev. The sensor may be on the small side but Expeed 3 does a great job of scaling the image... nice clean, sharp resolution and a pretty fast LSI considering the price point. Maybe if the firmware is not encrypted it could be your next conquest :) If you want a body say so and I will whip round for donations on EOSHD for a J1 body to be sent.

A second body: NEX-3N or NEX-5N?

I think buy a second body basically for photo still and leaving the GH2 basically for video.

I have reached the conclusion that the ideal would be one of these two options because arent so expensive. With less than $400 I can get one of these bodies even be used. I cant buy a NEX-7, NEX-6, E-M5 or E-PL5. Sony has a magnificent sensor, is excellent for photo still, plus I can use my old glasses, I think the Zuiko 50mm f1.8 or Asahi SMC 50mm f2 is one luxury with NEX to photograph street, rather than the GH2 as photo still.

And although the opportunity for ask which of the two NEX is better for video ?, Isnt the for video, but if I use one as a second camera in any circumstance or for any determinated shot, and I like the idea of have two different systems to experience both worlds.

I'm a long time GH1/GH2 hacked user. I viewed the Christmas Shootout videos from Phillip Bloom, and I realized that the DSLR with the most cinematic potential aside from the GH2 is the NEX 5N. If someone could hack the NEX 5N to a higher bitrate, it could probably gain all the advantages of the GH2, while keeping or improving what it already does better. A list for perspective:

GH2 (Hacked): -Better Resolution -Higher ISO values -More native lenses -External Mic Jack -Swivel out LCD

NEX5N: -Better Low light Capability -Sensor has better crop factor -60p!( better Full HD slow motion potential) -Flatter Pictures Profiles

...and I sure I'm missing something for both, but it would be helpful if anyone could add anything else they know. I don't know which one has better AF/AF tracking for its lenses. Just thought that the Sony NEX 5N may, if hacked, have everything we have in the GH2, and more (of course with no mic jack). SOMEONE PLEASE HACK THE SONY NEX 5N, PLEASE!!!!

Glass has no marks, no scratches, no fungus, no dust no cleaning marks, simply clean! Cosmetical it has some wear, some number indicators are slightly marked, but nevertheless this is not a issue, you can still read the f-stops, and meterings.

Adapter to EF mount (EOS) and it's suitable for Fullframe, and all other canon dSLR's, note that this also works on Nikon fullframe, Nex 5,6,7 Gh1,2,3 and ofcourse the soon to come Black magic cinema camera.

I'm very new to DSLR's and I'm looking at these two cameras to shoot video with. The subjects I record will be very close to the lens (a few inches away) so I will need something that can take jaw dropping footage.

The Sony is a bit less expensive than the GH2 but which would you guys recommend and why?

I have a GH1 (hacked), however I'm very interested in a little camera for my travels. Good video quality is important to me. I've seen that you can get old sony nex cameras (sony nex 3 and 5) and 18-55 kit lens for cheap..about 300 $. Both models cannot allow full manual controls in video (you can't set ISO), however videos on vimeo looks pretty good. Of course nex camera and gf1/2 have different sensor , crop factor etc...so a comparison is not "fair", however I would be curious to know what (little) camera you can suggest for video quality: gf2/1 or sony nex 3-5?

Got my 5N a few days ago.

It's good and nice to have an APS-C sensor in a mirrorless body with full manual video controls. Powerful new image processor, crying out to be hacked :)

But GH2 clearly wins on resolution and the cleanness of the image with less aliasing.

If you want a larger sensor and 1080/60p the 5N is a pretty good choice though!

Sony NEX 5N Problem with settings reset upon battery change

Does your Nex 5N have trouble retaining Picture profile, iso, and autofocus, among other setup settings when you change the battery?

Two US models both purchased in California from best buy seem to exhibit this problem - never seen this problem on any other DSLR or pro/amateur compact camera.

Try setting your color profile, then changing the battery - or autofocus modes for instance.

When you start the camera back up, all the settings went back to default.

WTF!?!
