Thu, 19 Jan 2012 03:47:18 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 2057@/talks/discussions In a recent experiment, I discovered that Microsoft have deliberately capped the minimum depth range of the Xbox Kinect controller (when running it on a Windows 7 PC using the official Beta 2 Kinect SDK) to a lousy 80cm. They have done this so that you will buy the new “Kinect for Windows” controller (which costs more than 4 times as much as the Xbox version) in order to unlock this cap, and track from ~50cm instead. They’re calling this “near mode”, and marketing it as an entirely new feature, when in fact it is not! Your existing Xbox Kinect controller is not only capable of tracking from 46cm and up, we (with the TKinect project) have been doing this for more than a year!

Romania: Removing social functions of goverment https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2033/romania-removing-social-functions-of-goverment Mon, 16 Jan 2012 22:44:38 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 2033@/talks/discussions 25 percent cut in public sector pay and five percentage point increase in VAT imposed in 2010 to maintain an IMF-led bailout

Now it is healphcare reform.

And, of course real goverment must sell all that makes big profits. This is, for sure, smart move.

Romania received offers from three groups seeking to manage the sale of a 15 percent stake in natural-gas producer Romgaz SA through the Bucharest Stock Exchange, according to an Economy Ministry official.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. is a part of one group, while two rival groups include JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Citigroup Inc., said Florin Vladan, the ministry’s official in charge of the sale, in a phone interview from Bucharest today.

Romania is pushing ahead with plans to sell stakes in state-owned companies this year

And as usual we see our old friends in contenders.

Backed by the criminals in the goverments.

Italy: Future is here https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1989/italy-future-is-here Wed, 11 Jan 2012 16:14:11 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 1989@/talks/discussions I am sure the Euro will oblige us to introduce a new set of economic policy instruments. It is politically impossible to propose that now. But some day there will be a crisis and new instruments will be created.

Romano Prodi, EU Commission President, December 2001

New Italian PM Mario Monti has mandated a cap on cash transactions in Italy of 1,000 euros, and reportedly wishes to gradually reduce this to 300 euros.

Italy has also set up checkpoints at the border to Switzerland to search Italians for illegal contraband (cash) fleeing the Euro for the safety of Switzerland. Finance Police has placed cameras at the physical borders with Switzerland to register all license plates.

New requirement that credit card companies report all transactions carried out by Italians, in Italy and abroad to the fiscal authorities;

Delays and refusals by banks in allowing customers to withdraw cash balances of as little as Euro 10,000

Unlike a lot of technology companies, Hewlett-Packard wasn't totally run by marketing people. It really respected its engineers...

As an example of how great a company HP was, consider this. During this time—the early 1970s—the recession was going on and everyone was losing their jobs. Even HP had to cut back 10 percent on its expenses. But instead of laying people off, HP wound up cutting everyone's salary by 10 percent. That way, no one would be left without a job.

You will never be a great engineer if you never record great music.

A great recording will always begin and end with a great song performed by a great musician. Your job as an engineer isn’t to take a mediocre song and make it great. That simply isn’t possible.

Does that mean you should ONLY record great songs and great musicians? Not at all. Use whatever talent you have available to hone your skills, but realize that your greatest work will likely be when you’re dealing with the most talented musicians.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, get it right at the source. Once you find a great musician with great songs, your job is to simply get it recorded and get out of the way.

Italy: 66 years retirement age, mass privatization of everything (benks get main infrastructure for 10-20%, as usual), massive cuts.
Belgium: All the same shit.

S&P planned rating cuts for leading European countries.
So, within a year we'll see all the same in others.]]>
