Google claims to have invented the "limitless CSI-style zoom"

You have probably seen at least one of those videos where some high-tech crime unit obtains a blurry, tiny image of some bad guy from a surveillance camera, and then effortlessly "zoom in" until they got a perfect portrait image out of a few pixels.

Well, seems that Google just claimed to have invented such technology.

But don't let the images fool you: "Deep neural networks" have already been shown to be easily fooled when classifying pictures, and I dont's see why a tool like the great Ostrichinator could not just as easily fool Google's "guessing zoom" to derive the picture of some arbitrary person from just any seemingly innocent 8x8 pixel sample.

New upscaling algorithm "RAISR" advertised/used by Google

The "Rapid and Accurate Image Super Resolution" algorithm "RAISR" is touted by Google to be the best invention since sliced bread, but as usual, it won't be used to bring you better quality at existing bandwidths, it will rather be used to be cheap on bandwidth, bringing you 75% more advertisements per megabyte transferred.

Google Drive is Acting Like a Lil Punk Mother Fucker

I can't download 1TB of files someone shared with me on Google Drive. It's about 950 files. When I highlight all and click download, Google Drive says "Zipping 950 files" and when finally done, there's only 2 files in zip file created. I tried to break it up into 50 files each but then the zipped file created only contains 28 of them. Does anyone have any idea how to download a large number of files from Google Drive?

What we know so far:

16 Cameras
Uses image computation to render 360 VR & 3D VR Scene, AKA Lightfield
Image computation may be too power hungry to run on a single computer- (maybe Google Compute?)
Youtube is now 360VR Aware- use python script to activate- with equirectangular video (4k looks like max)
GoPros have an extended battery (possibly the orange thing in the photo)
GoPros are also synced
Google experimenting with best material for UFO. Plastic - Metal - Wood - Unobtainium, final design will be available online
Looks like there may be a fisheye element on front of each camera, (otherwise how is the top & bottom captured)

Decline of Apple and rise (again) of Google

Has anyone been around a pair of glass? Would it be possible to hack a pair of glass? I just sent an email to the google glass employees asking if they would support a kickstarter project that focused on enhancing (hacking) the camera aspect of glass.

Google's Image Search: Re-Design Hurts Desktop Users and Puts Critical Functionality on Vacation

If you've used Google Image Search in the last year, you've probably gotten used to having a lot of options available to you on the left. Options you could get to quickly and easily, like being able to specify images large than a given size.

But a week ago, Google decided to launch a re-designed interface that hid most options, required more clicks, and move them to the top where they could only be used with an animated reveal (that you had to wait for) in order to make the desktop based image search more consistent with mobile use.

Worse still, the have "temporarily" removed the ability to specific "larger than" or "exact size" image options when searching. Now you can only specify three vague categories of size at best, and even that takes several clicks!

Over a 170 people have posted complaints in the last week in the official Google group at https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/websearch/xcv50_kJ9Pc/ApEqKbCI8u4J but it may take a lot more for Google to get the idea people do NOT like having functionality randomly removed for no apparent reason and that desktop users do NOT like having their functionality impacted just to make things "consistent" with mobile users.

We couldn't stop Panasonic from ditching an MAR sensor, but this IS something we can do something about. Google has changed similar things in the past in response to public outcry.
