I currently have a Zhiyun Crane V2 that I use with my GH2 and it supports a payload of 0.8 to 3.9 lbs. The lightest setup I use on it (GH2+20mm f/1.7 version 1) is around 1.2 lbs while the heavier ones go up to right around 3.9 lbs.

The problem is that I’m recovering from some health problems and an upcoming surgery next week that make walking in the way meant to reduce vertical jitter easier said than done. Thus, I’m looking at a Glidecam in the hopes of getting more of a swaying up and down than the abrupt jerks I have with my motorized gimbal.

The Glidcam HD-1000 has been advertised as handling a payload from 1.5 lbs to 3 lbs. The Glidecam HD-2000 has been advertised as handling 2-6 lbs. The HD-4000 advertises 4-10 lbs. None of these seems (at least on paper) to be able to cover the full range I use.

To make things even more complicated, I am considering combining the Crane V2 and Glidecam in the DIY Trinity knockoff approach that Momentum Productions popularized - which would mean needing a minimum payload of 3.6 lbs supported for the Glidecam.

My question is, has anyone had experience with different Glidecam on a GH2? Can any of them handle a setup as light as the GH2+pancake even though on paper it would be too light? Is using too light a weight or too heavy a weight more of a problem?

Lenses for GH4 on Zhiyun Crane? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16576/lenses-for-gh4-on-zhiyun-crane Fri, 10 Mar 2017 15:48:26 +0000 IS2 16576@/talks/discussions Hi all,

I've been super on the fence between getting a Ronin M or a Zhiyun Crane. I think I'm leaning towards the crane because it's much more portable realistically enabling more shooting freedom.

I know I unfortunately won't be able to use my lovely Sigma 18-35mm due to the size, so was wondering - which lenses do you all use on your GH4/crane set up and for what scenarios?

Gimbal Reviews or Personal Experience? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15872/gimbal-reviews-or-personal-experience Wed, 12 Oct 2016 09:05:48 +0000 tfinn 15872@/talks/discussions Has anyone from PV used the either of the two gimbals most recently posted under deals: the Zhiyun or the Wondlan? I am in particular looking for anyone's experience with the single-handle versions, comparison with Beholders, anything, really. If you think single-handed gimbals suck, I would love to hear that. And if you think the only way to shoot on a gimbal is to buy/rent a Red and plop it on a Movi, I'd like to hear that, too.

Sorry if this should go under another thread, the last gimbal threads I saw seemed to focus on suggestions for gimbals for a particular camera. I am actually looking to see if people would recommend the gimbals at all, as it seems for better or worse all small-form mirrorless/dslrs/point-and shoots, etc. seem to be in the same approximate form factor and weight range (minus lenses). I trust the opinions of people on PV, so I like seeing reviews that people do - I think there was talk of a PV Review section coming at some point? Do I have that right?

Allsteady 6 and Gimbal Modes https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12870/allsteady-6-and-gimbal-modes- Sat, 25 Apr 2015 10:58:16 +0000 melf31 12870@/talks/discussions Hey everyone, thanks in advance for your answers. I'm currently in the market for a 3 axis gimbal and the AllSteady 6 has come up as a potential good option for me. I'm also eagerly awaiting the Ronin M but once you've added the joystick its going to come in about $800 over what I can get the Allsteady 6 for.

There aren't many review (or any really) for the all steady but from what I can tell it seems pretty limited in terms of having access to different modes. There are 5 modes which are pre-programmed to:

User Setting 1: Lighter configurations with full follow. (e.g. Panasonic GH4 and the Sony A7S/A6000) User Setting 2: Medium configurations with full follow. (e.g. Canon 5D Mark ii/iii camera with up to 24-70mm & 24-105mm lenses) User Setting 3: Heavier configurations with full follow. (e.g. Canon 5D Mark ii/iii camera with up to 70-200mm & Red Scarlet/Epic/Dragon which requires optional extension brackets or cage upgrades.) User Setting 4: Lighter configurations with disabled joystick under multirotor or with optional wireless joystick to work on top of tripods or under crane. User Setting 5: Medium configurations with disabled joystick under multirotor or with optional wireless joystick to work on top of tripods or under crane.

Their idea being that once you receive the gimbal you'll never have to adjust any PID settings since they have presets that should have you covered. However what this means in reality is that you only really have 2 modes to use - "full follow" and "Wireless joystick". Your other 3 modes are taken up with presets for cameras you may or may not use. And if you're operating a heavier camera then its just one mode!

I called Turbo Ace about this and they said they would pre-program any mode(s) you needed for your order, but that would take up one of the 5 slots. That would be fine if you knew what camera you'd be flying for your duration of your ownership of the gimbal but if, say 6 months down the line, you change cameras and you go up or down a weight bracket you'd have to send the gimbal back to Turbo Ace for them to re-program the gimbal. They'd charge for this a rate of something like $150 per hour.

Now I've never owned or operated a gimbal before but it seems a bit strange to me to be kinda locked in to what ever you have when you order the gimbal, unless you're willing to pay up. It would be great to know from other Gimbal owners if the "full follow" mode is enough. The gimbal comes with a thumb joystick btw.

Are any AllSteady 6 owners who can give some feedback on their experience so far?

Thanks
