2.5mm Angled Stereo Plug DIY for the GH2

I could never find a 2.5mm angled stereo plug. The only other alternative to the regular straight plug which stick out of the camera and could potentially snap while inside the camera, is the 3.5/2.5 angled adapter. I found these adapters to be quite dangerous because they sometimes can loose contact and therefore are not very reliable. So I assembled my own version which works perfectly.

These two plugs are quiet standard i've seen them in shops and on ebay, easy to find and cheap. Make sure that the "golden" plug fits strongly into the GH2 plug to make a reliable contact.

Take the interior part of the golden plug and the exterior part of the silver plug, bend the interior of the golden plug or just cut it off so it fits the the shape of the silver plug.

Fit the golden interior part into the exterior silver part of the plug, so that the little "minidisc" (red arrow) of the golden plug is outside, if not it doesn't make contact. Sorry - I just realized that the exterior angled silver plug has a plastic inside whith which you fix the cable. I forgot to put it into the photo. But obviously that helps a lot the stability of the plug.

If you cut off the mini xlr and change the plug connections the same way described in this topic: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4450/akg-c747-premium-quality-mini-shotgun-on-gh2-audio-test#Item_26 this clip mic works directly plugged into the GH2 or any other digital recorder, which has a minimum power on the mic input, no need for further power supply. I am a big fan of AKG, you find them often times for really cheap on ebay etc. I use it normally with the Olympus LS10 for interviews etc and sync it in post, now bothering wireless required.

Well, hello there.

I've been studying Filmmaking for a year and a half now in Colombia and just recently bought a camera (A GH2). My lens collection is almost non existent, with only the 14-42 kit lens and an old Canon FD 50mm 1.8 ridden with fongus, and I'd like to start one.

Because of the look and overall feeling (Also, very rare in the indie/0 budget short film scene in my country) I'd like to go the anamorphic route. However, it is downright impossible to get an anamorphic lens here, so I don't have the chance to try one and then decide if I like it. I have to make those decisions online.

What I'd like to ask is what combinations of taking lens+Anamorphic has given you people the best results?

My two options right now are: Getting an SLR Magic Hyperprime 35mm T0.95 lens now and, after I get my savings account back in shape from that heavy blow, get an anarphic lens to use with it.

Or, getting one of the Dog Schidt lenses - https://www.facebook.com/DogSchidtOptiks?fref=ts -, which are much cheaper and have loads of character AND an anamorphic lens (With clamps, diopters and such)

Will this program (http://cineform.com/products/gopro-cineform-studio-premium#overview) work to convert GH2 AVHD files to have a higher dynamic range, allowing the footage to be more heavily color graded? From this tutorial (http://www.henryolonga.net/Blog/?p=1365) It looks like it should work, but I wasn't if anyone else has tried it out.

MJPEG Why don't make GH2 render lossless image sequence instead of QT?

Hey, I got this idea. What if GH2 could render image sequence instead of compressed video in QuickTime container? I mean this would be great since each frame is compressed as an independent JPEG image, and then into QuickTime file. Is there any way to bypass QT container and get just lossless image sequence on card?

50mm F1.4 Zeiss Planar

I have the Zeiss C/Y Mount 85mm f/1.4 from West Germany (with the ninja blade bokeh) and love it; it's probably the best lens I own. I'm deciding on the 50mm f/1.4 and want to know if there is much difference between the C/Y mount and recent ZF. The C/Y is much cheaper and if I'm using it mainly for the GH2 (or even on the 5D) why spend the extra money? Unless it's a better lens for some reason.

Calling Brighton & Sussex p-v'ers: BBC South East Today broadcast 'BOAT' - from hacked GH2 & GH3!

A dear theatre-maker mate of mine recently passed away and his dying wish was for Brighton to have its very own Open Air Theatre (BOAT). The BBC have just broadcast today (check BBC iPlayer later) on South East Today parts of the following Vimeo link (they downloaded the footage from Vimeo :-) )

I made this spur-of-the-moment video (totally unprepared) in his last get together on Brighton & Hove's Lawns near the seafront. And it was great to see the Beeb use parts of it (and that the Panasonic GHx cameras are absolutely fine for broadcast!). Adrian's words are emphatic and amazing for a man in so much pain - he died only a few days later from his disease, pancreatic cancer. He only found out he had it two months ago and I just can't imagine him not being around anymore. He was very brave to the end.

Anyway, I'm mainly calling out to local personal-viewers who are invited to come along and lend support to this Sunday's BOAT fundraiser at Brighton's Dome theatre for a night of comedy. There are still a few tickets left and all proceeds go towards the building of the theatre. If you can't make it, please try and support it or donate via the Facebook link on the Vimeo page. Your help will turn an old and secluded bowling lawn into an amazing open air theatre scheduled for opening next May - and part of the Brighton Festival. GH2 to monitor: is there a hack to stop auto change to Interlaced when camera set to progressive?

Hi all,

I've been tinkering with my camera set up. I wanted to monitor what I was shooting on a bigger screen, and wanted to use my macbook pro retina as the monitor. I bought a blackmagic intensity shuttle, connected it via HDMI to the shuttle and the shuttle to my mac via thunderbolt.

At first I had no picture - the camera was set to 24p cinema mode at FH.... but, in order to get the camera working through Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 capture function (and the blackmagic media express software) I had to change the settings on the software to 1080i 50 - so it looks like both pieces of software think the camera is spitting out 1080i 50 rather than 1080p 24.

As a result, I have 2 questions:

1 - does using an HDMI monitor change the footage captured on the SD card in the camera from 24p 1080p to 50 1080i? If not, then that's fine, I only want to monitor the footage and can cope with a visual change showing on my Mac. If so, then.... we have an issue.... 2 - is there a hack or option in ptools that will keep it at 24 1080p if it does affect the SD card recorded footage? I'm using Flowmotion v2 at the moment.

@Vitaliy_Kiselev - can you, or any of the geniuses on here help?

Lumix 14-140mm AFS problem

Hi everybody,

I meant to ask this for a long time but kept forgting about it.

My 14-140mm Lumix lens is not behaving itself in AFS mode on my GH2. It just can not focus. It is working fine with GH1, it is working fine in AFC mode. But won't work with GH2. No other lens have this issue on GH2 so I don't think it is a camera body issue.

I don't use Auto Focus for filming and rarely use it for stills anyway but it is an annoying issue when you need it...

Anybody had a similar problem? Any thoughts?

Hi! Im proud to present this musicvideo shot with GH2 (Sedna) as A-CAM and Canon 5DmkIII as B-cam. Its a bit bigger scale project than other ive seen here. I really love my GH2 as it gives much better detail and very pleasent colors compared to MK3. Its pretty easy to spot the detail difference between these two cams. Kipon m43 adapter with Zeiss and Canon lenses were used. Hack used was Sedna. Big thanks to VK and Driftwood!

Reducing the GH2's sharpness on the 14-140mm kit lens

Hi,

I own the GH2 with the 14-140mm Lumix lens, and I just started making films. I really like the 14-140mm, it has a very fast autofocus (for filming skateboard or whatever...), and when zoomed in it has a very nice DOF. But the problem is, it is way too sharp (even with sharpness at -2 and the Apocalypse Now DrewNet 'Soft' hack 444 matrix). I bought the GH2 thinking that it would have the same "Smooth" effect as the Canon T2i, 7D, 5D but with more resolution... because the GH2 IS a DLSR (or should I say DSLM). I know I could have this effect if I use non-panasonic or vintage lenses, but right know I own only the Lumix 14-140, and I'm not buying new lenses right now (or anamorphic adapters). The videos with those kit lens looks too much like a cheep Hi-rez camcorder and not like a DSLR or Cinematic or RED video... I know, I know, I should use a short DOF, reduce everything to -2... bla bla bla... But the 14-140 is still too sharp. It maybe even look a tad better on the GH1...

Now is there any type of HACK made especially for that type of lens, or any HACK that really softens the image down (canon-like) without a big loss of quality ?

I've already tried "soft" hacks (apocalypse now...etc), but it doesn't change anything, the edges are still too rough and sharp.

I would like that kind of soft light and professional effect from Canon cameras (but with better quality) :

But the best would be this effect (those are NOT Lumix lenses) :

I know that there are already some posts that are about the same, but none of them really helps me.

GH2 Issue Horizontal Brown Lines

Hi People,

Bought the GH2 last week and after an weekend filming and shooting photos, i noticed today strange Banding on the LCD and on the viewfinder. Most visible with very fast shutterspeed.

Is this a damaged LCD or damaged sensor? Anyone with the same problem?

Problem is visible with stock 1.1 firmware and also when i hack.

Live Streaming Solutions

Ive got a major live event to film end of this month and wondered what the best solutions to use with a GH2 would be. I'm thinking using the HDMI out to an SDI conversion but would like to know people's experience of using / connecting upto a laptop which is using IP to upload to either a point to point or dedicated streaming server to client end.
The GH2 needs to be roaming so no fixed cable can be used. So wireless transmitter to receiver would be required, then something to get it into the laptop and then using ustream, telestream or whatever to live encode.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be well received. Many thanks.

GH2 or GH3 for green screen?

Hi, I own a GH2 and a GH3, quite happy with both. I'm going to shoot videoclip on green screen. I already have some experience with GH2 and green screen, and I've already searched and followed all related discussion here on PV (and outside), but one thing I couldn't come up with a decision is basically wether using the GH2 (hacked) or the GH3. What appeals me of the GH3 is essentially the improved DR, while for the GH2 the main factor would be using a hack (Driftwood or CM Green Screen). I would not use the horrid All-I with the GH3. I'm not asking tips on green screen, I just want to know it anyone used both for this task and has some thoughts to share.

The gh2 is in good condition, has only a slight defect on the screen that does NOT affect the touch screen. I sell it in tandem with the legendary Sandisk card. The leica is almost perfect, used it for a video project and some occasional photo. Sell together with the Polaroid filter, used only when it arrived from the order for a test (and 'great for the price it costs). Boxes, cavetterie, manuals, all complete.

My first results using a hacked GH2
