Affordable LED "fresnels" appeared

They do not have fresnel lens :-) Just fixed one.

Chinese ARRI Fresnel lights, very good

I wonder if anyone in this forum has used Chinese Fresnel light that are available here at personal-view.com deals.

What's your opinion/recommendation?

I also wonder if anyone has used 800W Red Head Quartz Fresnel lights (for just £56, it seems to be a steel)

I understand that the LED is the new fashion and everyone is going after them. But which ones would you recommend in terms of good old fashioned fresnel lights? So far my requirements are Dimmer, Color temperature control, Barn doors and Fresnel lens. Should I look for other features when choosing? It would be awesome to have LED with Fresnel, but alas...

Anyone knows this fresnel (220V 2000W Yellow Head) from Came-TV?

La chica says it's equal to 150W tungsten which is not much but still decent provided the size and the weight of the light. For $495 I know no competitive solution currently for such a small and portable fresnel. Or is there any?

LED lights are awesome, save you a LOT of hassle on location, and are dropping in prices. At the same time the good old ARRI fresnel tungsten lighting gives you that beautiful cinematic lighting - so beautiful and easy to control that you might want to put up with all the hassle and cost that they involve.

So I thought: would it be possible to combine best of both worlds? Would it be possible to have LED lights which also work as a Fresnel lights? Then I found out that this is the newest cutting edge thing that ARRI offers in it’s L-series, and LightPanels is releasing its own early models too, and they cost tens of thousands of dollars!

I wonder if I can make it DIY?

After all it shouldn’t be that difficult. I thought of getting a 312ASZ led panel (which, correct me if I'm wrong should give me a 250W equivalent) and sticking one of those plastic Fresnel lenses that old people use to read newspapers. But then the question becomes, are these good enough Fresnel lenses for purposes of cinematic lighting? And how to make it so that the lens moves back and forth, so as to focus the light?

Cheap and Good Lighting Idea

While reviewing a LED light, I learned the LED light isn't really good with a barn door. When a barn door is narrowed, the LED light gave rows of lights with discrete light strength. Looking weird and unpleasant.

Fresnel light can give more natural looking focused light. No discrete rows of light. Look at this aliexpress deal. It comes with a softbox, too. Awesome!!! It looks heavy, but I already have portable Z96 and CL-LED256. This is primarily for indoor studio work.

There are plenty of reviews about it or its likes, and most buyers seem happy with made-in-china Fresnel light.

I hope we can get a group discount. I'd get it if we can get close to $200. But I'm not a good negotiator... Can someone help please?

Zylight LED fresnel light

Interview with charlie Collias of Zylight about their new LED fresnel. I think what's really noteworthy about this new unit is that it really seems to be an effective workhorse fresnel, but it's not a big bulky housing- it accordions down to a pretty low profile in full flood for packing and moving. The accordion design struck me as both innovative and intelligent. This unit also has a nice hard-edged shadow on the beam; it gets away from the mushy multi-shadow thing that is such a hallmark of LEDs. Remote controllable, daylight balanced, battery-powerable, this light looks like it may rise above the new pack of LED fresnels. An associate of mine at B&H was predicting this one to be a big seller once it's in wide release. Downsides? Regular tungsten fresnels are still pretty cheap to buy and rent. Until Electricity and replacement bulb prices rise up a whole lot more, I don't think there will be a wholesale adoption of this unit by the general rental house market. It's a little pricey still compared to tungsten, about 2400$ for a unit that compares outputwise to a 650w fresnel. Being daylight balanced, though, it compares favorably to the small HMIs on the market, especially when you take the replacement bulb costs into account. Overall, I think this light will be a winner for smaller productions where the production company or DP owns a lot of the gear themself. It's portability and versatility appealed to me for that market.
