This looks like a great camera that would really do what the ikonoskop tried to. It is s16mm at 2k or 16mm at 1920x1080. It records to compact flash cards ( cheaper than 100$ memory cards) has usb 3.0 out (better than a $1000 express card reader from ikonoskop) and has XLR inputs.

I am sad to say I have found this just days after selling my 16mm lens. That's the way it goes though I guess

oh did I mention it is $3300? If you preorder you can get it for $2500

Boya BY-TM7 Digital Dual Transmitter Wireless Mic System https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/20158/boya-by-tm7-digital-dual-transmitter-wireless-mic-system Mon, 30 Jul 2018 23:03:38 +0000 halfmac 20158@/talks/discussions How would like a digital dual transmitter wireless mic system for two people that is reliable and easy to use? With the Boya BY-TM7 all you do is put in the AA batteries, put the mic on you talent, turn on the transmitter and receiver and it does the rest. No setting frequencies, adjusting mic levels and no pairing. Now you are ready to do a two person interview.

image

I used this system for a lecture that was given in my area for sound support. I put the transmitter on the lecturer and the introducer and the receiver on the speaker system. I had the system on for over 2 hours with no drop outs and very clear sound. The lecturer was able to mute himself until the time he was ready to lecture and the introducer muted themselves after the introduction.

This new digital dual transmitter wireless mic system from Boya is well built with rugged aluminum construction. The system used dual channels that automatically scans channels to pair the transmitter to the receiver when turned on. It uses the transmission method of TDMA. What we get is very clear voice with a high signal to noise ratio.

image

The use these units, take them out of the nice case that is provided. Put 2 AA batteries in each transmitter. Open the transmitter by using two fingers to push locking release on the battery compartment and it slides open and comes out. The symbols for the direction of the batteries. Close it back up by sliding it back in and clicking. The transmitter is small and weighs 159 grams with batteries. (111 grams without)

Clip the lavaliere mic on your talent and plug it in to the locking connector on the transmitter by turning the ring on the 3.5mm mic cable, clockwise to lock. Do the same for the second transmitter. The mics have small windscreens provided for out door use.

Put two batteries into the receiver which has a cold shoe for mounting on a camera. It has a 1/2 inch hole for mounting on a tripod. To do this, push the back of the receiver up at the arrow and the cover slides open. The AA batteries are the installed in the direction indicated on the battery compartment. Slide the cover back on until it stops and clicks. It weighs 128 grams with batteries. (80 grams without)

The next thing you need to do to be ready to use these units is plug in the proper cable to the receiver. The system comes with two cables, on with a male XLR plug and one with a 3.5 plug on it. On the other end that connects to the receiver is a Mini TA3F XLR connector. Plug the right cable in and the other end into the mixer, PA system, camera or recorder.

Because of the automatic pairing all you do is turn it on. The units tell you that the system is paired with blue lights on the units and on the easy to read LCD display on the transmitters. The transmitters have a big Red Power button on the left side of the unit. Push it in and the transmitter powers on. The LCD lights up and the pairing light turns red. The LCD indicates the battery level and signal strength. It show Tx when not paired. Do the same for the other transmitter.

image

Turn on the Power switch on the right side of the receiver by pushing it up and the power indicator light turns red. When the unit automatically pair the power turns off and the blue pair light comes on the receiver and the transmitters.

Now you are ready to go. The two transmitters are on the same channel so two people can talk and it will be heard on the audio channel you plug into. The only way not to hear one of the people is to mute that transmitter by pushing the /Pair/Mute switch on it or turn it off.

image

After the lecture all I had to do is hold for two seconds the Red Power button on the transmitter to power them off. To power off the receiver, slide the power switch down.

If the units don’t pair there is a Pair button on each of the units all you do is push them to repair them.

This Boya BY-TM7 is very easy to use and provides good, clear, reliable sound without much fuss.

Very grateful to do a test with the world-famous filmmaker, Werner Herzog. He came down to my studio last week to do a quick test for his next film, "Untitiled Film About Death and Little People." Special thanks to the actors and the camera people - Nachiketa Amin, Phil Kibbe, and Carolina Ravassa and my producer Lily Henderson. Dedicated to the character development coaches I had - Chris Bagnall, Mariel Snynan, John Meese, Jaimie DeFina, and Sean Kennedy and my film school teacher who said, "Werner, you are never going to make it. Not with that facial hair." I graded DPX files 12 bit out of f35, redlogcine and reddragoncolor2, and BMD gamma from DB. My coloring job was lackluster, to say the least. Inconsistent. Digital Bolex fans - I'm sorry - I couldn't figure out how to make the footage not look terrible. I am sorry. I failed you. I am ready for you to tell me how I loaded in the footage wrong. That is okay. I make many mistakes in life.

WDTV's are quite inexpensive now- don't get the new ones (Gen3) as they are not hacked yet.

Great for Art Installations (using one now) and Digital Signage, there are hacks for playback of 66mb/s material over HDMI!
(and the best thing is you switch it on and it 'simply works' for less than $100 USD!

My main motivation for posting this is that I almost swore not to buy one... thinking a MacMini or custom mini PC would be much better- but now I think completely opposite! The stage of DSLR cameras in the future https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6662/the-stage-of-dslr-cameras-in-the-future Wed, 10 Apr 2013 16:13:48 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 6662@/talks/discussions This thread isnt for talk or praise the quality of the Pocket Camera that are already well known and there are two thread of it, its for analyze and maybe a little speculate because I havent a crystal ball and dont know anyone who works within the industry film or camera makers to speak firmly of things to come.

Some time ago I've been thinking that one day they will see cameras with dreamy benefits available to our pockets and BMC has taken the first big step.

After impact caused by Pocket Camera at NAB seems as if all DSLR cameras literally stay in the past, the film market and videographic intermediate, semi-pro and professional low budget now has a gear of very low cost, then I wonder how that argument would have for example someone who wants today to buy a 5D MKIII about U$3000 for videos and films when for a third of the cost you have a body that offers RAW with 13 EVF of DR. Who less would suffer possibly are cameras under US$1,000 where the user amateur looking a camera for photo and with video to record the dog pacing on the garden, the family eating BBQ, an afternoon at the beach or something without more pretense, but I dont know if that market segment is sufficient for these traditional manufacturers.

I assume that traditional manufacturers must have a headache because they did not expect this movement. Anybody what will buy a camera for video a film low cost will prefer a DSLR digital -regardless the record format- to a camera to record in RAW?

BMC's movement beneficent the market because it will be forced to Sony, Panasonic, Canon and Nikon to compete with similar or better gear features, that or leave the market for inematographers and filmakers low budget because they havent argument to compete equal now.

PS, sorry for my poor english.

Transferring Super 8mm Film: Best GH2 picture mode for accurate color reproduction? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6537/transferring-super-8mm-film-best-gh2-picture-mode-for-accurate-color-reproduction Thu, 28 Mar 2013 22:18:12 +0000 powderbanks 6537@/talks/discussions I have collected several reels of Super 8mm film over the years and I finally picked up a transfer 'box' from eBay. Most of the footage is color and general 'home video' stuff (Christmas, somebody's wedding, some kid's birthday, etc), so what is the best picture profile on the GH2 to accurately reproduce the original color of the film?

I typically shoot with 'Smooth' all at -2, but that's so I get a very flat, gradable image. I will probably transcode the AVCHD files straight to an internet ready H.264 file, but I have no plans of grading any of it.

70mm Digital Raw.

The camera will feature on-board recording via an SSD, perhaps 1.5Tb

It will feature a Titanium body, and should be a couple of pounds lighter than the Arri Alexa.

It is expected to record DNxHD and ProRes, in RGB and maybe RAW.

The sensor can be windowed down to 42mm and 35mm formats.

They’re keen to allow a wide range of metadata to be captured and recorded onboard, making it “the VFX department’s dream camera“

They are also looking to develop a new open codec format

We’re expecting to see a prototype in the next six months…

Hack for Feature Lenght Documentary Film for the BIG SCREEN - "Digital Cinema Package" https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5491/hack-for-feature-lenght-documentary-film-for-the-big-screen-digital-cinema-package Sat, 15 Dec 2012 07:41:03 +0000 MisterJ 5491@/talks/discussions Hi!

It's been around a Year I signed in here for the very first time. So now, after many test shoots, I'm planning to choose GH2 for the next film project.

Film is about 85 minute long documentary. Films shooting style is mainly situation-based documentary (Cinéma Vérité aka Direct Cinema) with some "cinematic scenes". So some of the scenes are classic documentary and some more stylistic - fiction like - with lightning crew, dolly, directed action etc.

These situation-based events I'm going to shoot with GH2 attached to the Steadicam Pilot. And yes, no interviews. This means I don't have very long takes.

I really like Lee's Flow Motion v2 and Nick's Sedna (AQ1-A) or Cluster v6&7. These I've tested quite a lot. What I'm looking for is best combination in detail and in fluid motion (motion rendering - no strobo effect). And of course hacks reliability is a virtue too! =D

So does anyone has any extra pointers about taking a project to Big Screen? Or if You think there is superior Hack for this kind of project - please don't hesitate to speak out.

Thanx and all the Best, MisterJ

HD ProRes to Film Transfer? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6051/hd-prores-to-film-transfer Thu, 07 Feb 2013 21:03:32 +0000 B3Guy 6051@/talks/discussions Hey, all! I am heading into my final semester as an art student, and the culmination of all this is having artwork in several gallery exhibitions. Of course, I do film work with my GH2 in anamorphic, and I need to decide how I want to display it in the gallery.

To be honest, I have yet to see a digitally projected image in a gallery setting that I've been pleased with aesthetically, which leads me to the question of this topic . . .

What are my options for transferring my 2.5K ProRes files to film, and how best would I project this in a gallery setting?

I have done some preliminary looking, and transfer services are available. 35mm transfer is more expensive, of course, and I do not know enough about 35mm projectors to know if "home use" projectors even exist. How high of quality is 16mm film? Will it do my GH2 footage justice in terms of resolution? It seems the easier route, as transfers are cheaper and good quality "home use" models are cheap too, even with sound.

I will continue to research and post what I find on this topic for the benefit of others, but I just thought I'd ask some preliminary questions in case there is a P-Ver with more first-hand film experience.

How do you deliver content? The bandwidth topic. https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2958/how-do-you-deliver-content-the-bandwidth-topic. Fri, 20 Apr 2012 18:20:28 +0000 5thwall 2958@/talks/discussions This is a continuation of a discussion that started in the Final Cut X topic: http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/comment/57810#Comment_57810

The subject of tapeless deliverables was brought up, which was very timely for me, since I was in the middle of a job that was going crazy with uploading deliverables. Curious to know, how are you delivering final masters to your clients? Is it still tape? Do you see a decline in tape and an upward trend in digital delivery? How do you bill for upload time?

This is a topic for us to discuss the future of delivery in terms of bandwidth. Ideas, recommendations on best practices in the work environment. I'm very curious to know what your personal standards or your company's standards are for delivering digital content. Where do you see the need for bandwidth in small business and homes over the next few years - and will it be affordable? How do you organize the vast swath of files and content that's created?

Let's keep the NLE debate out of this conversation and focus on the realities of our day-to-day needs in delivery. Please post in the Final Cut X topic if you've got "beef" (and you know I do!).

PTTools Feature Request - Camera/Owner ID https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3029/pttools-feature-request-cameraowner-id Fri, 27 Apr 2012 06:36:16 +0000 duartix 3029@/talks/discussions Would it be simple to have some kind of personal digital signature available as a hack parameter?

Something that would make it to every photo you took via EXIF information. I think it would be very useful if we could use PTTools to define a small text signature (ex: "This camera belongs to John Doe, 1000 - Planet Earth, North Pole: john_doe@earth.org").

This way, if your body gets stolen and assuming there is a 50% chance that it ends in hack ignorant hands, you have a meaningful chance to see some traces of it surfacing the Web in the form of pictures taken with that camera.
