For Sale: Lanparte DSLR Baseplate, and Shoulder Pad. Both function together with 15mm rods (included). I've used both just several times and are practically new. Just get some rods and handles and you've got a good to go shoulder rig.

Lanparte baseplate mod

I have this lovely baseplate that I bought from Lanparte through PV to use with my GH2. I love it, but it's been a bit of a pain in the ass to use because every time I need to change the battery, I have to slide the camera off the baseplate and then pop the QR plate off to get at the battery terminal. I noticed that you could file down the QR to get the battery out, and saw here that some people had done that. So, I borrowed a friends angle grinder and did that.....work like a charm. When I put everything together I noticed that I might be able to grind enough of the baseplate away to be able to open the battery port with everything assembled, but that it'd be cutting it close. So I said, "f**k it, I'll give it a try", and boy am I glad I did. Now I can change batteries when fully rigged......awesome! Now, I don't think everyone will want to do this, it does compromise the structural integrity of the unit to some degree, but for me, it's 100% worth it.

As you can see in the last picture, it was necessary to grind down to just about where the QR slides in, and the section I grinded down is loose now, but even if that section comes off, it's not really necessary for holding the camera in place, it just wouldn't slide smoothly from both sides any more. This is something I'm willing to give up to be able to change batteries without disassembling!!!

What I lost in beauty, I gained in functionality :)

GH2 Centre Of Lens To Base Dimensions

Does anyone know if there is a standardised distance between the centre of the sensor/lens and camera base between the Panasonic GH2 and other DSLR's such as Nikon D800, 5D, 60D and other MFT cameras, to allow a baseplate to be more universal to achieve the industry 85mm rod distance. I measured the GH2 to be 35mm. What are the others?

Firstly I would like to thank everyone's input regarding the GH2 as well as details about cage requirements throughout Personal View. VK I like that you say things as it is... also all developers thank you and well done with the "The Great Camera Shootout" results!

I'm currently finalising Cad drawings for the Cage, my idea is to make a cage that would complement the GH2 visually as well as being practical in a profesional environment.

I know we would like all bells and wistles (anything can be made or added) but please keep in mind that i need to keep the cost down as so far machining time looks to be around one hour per cage plus black hard anodising plus included accesories ie; HDMI clamp . Saying that i would like to price it realistically. So far i'm very exited, the Cage looks very professional. I will attach pics as soon as i finish drawings sometime next week. If all goes well we could have a batch of 25 in a 2-3 weeks.

A bit about me, I've enjoyed building film equipment as much as i have using a camera. Thus far i've build and tweaked various rigs ie; stabliser, motorised timelapse slider, follow focus rig. I've also played around with converting bolex lenses for Micro 43, some 8mm lenses do work with the GH2 EX Tele Conv Mode with great results. I started using the GF1 when the hack talks was still on another forum, and i'm now using a GH2. I am passionate about seeing professional equipment becoming more accessible for all filmakers to focus on creativity to tell their stories.

I am based near Richmond in the UK where the cage will be made.

I appreciate any input regarding this venture.

Has anyone removed or exchanged the cork on Ginirig´s camera mount?

Hi,

I was shooting a concert yesterday on my Ginirig. When I wanted to take some pictures I grabbed my GH2 with my right hand of course and shot the stills. When I continued filming I realized that the follow focus wasn´t touching the lens gear anymore because by just holding the cam on its grip it twisted a little bit on the cork. I have grip tape on the GH2´s bottom and it is tightened to the base plate as humanly possible.

So now I´m thinking of removing that cork and I am wondering if anyone has any experience to share on that matter.

For Sale: Redrock Micro DSLR Baseplate - Sold!

This item is actually new. I ordered it earlier this year for use with my Panasonic GH2 from bhphotovideo.com for $229.50. I mounted the camera to the plate and onto my rails and realized that there was no way to keep the camera from spinning around on the baseplate (The GH2 doesn't have an auxillary hole to prevent this like the Canon 7d). So this has pretty much been sitting on my shelf ever since. There's a little rub on the top of the plate from my camera rotating on it. Paint isn't removed or anything and this can only be seen when holding it in the right light. This piece is extremely well built and will serve you well for many years.

I will be shipping this to the winner in the same box that BHPhotoVideo.com sent it to me in. This items is complete with original box, Canon Set Screw with tiny Allen Key for installation, and Nikon Set Screw with tiny Allen Key for installation as well as instructions from Redrock Micro.
