I just used the B&W filter in premiere, then adjusted the grey point and dynamic range.
Is there a way to get that silver, organic look?

What Fluid Head is this!?!? https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14141/what-fluid-head-is-this Wed, 02 Dec 2015 01:37:07 +0000 fotosiamo 14141@/talks/discussions So my friend bought a Davis & Sanford 7518 tripod recently off Amazon, but instead of getting the popular FM18, she got a V18 fluid head, a model I've never seen before and can't even find any info on Google, Amazon, or B&H.

Anyone heard of this? Someone said that it's a rebadged fluid head, but he doesn't know which one. It does seem smoother than the FM18, though.

FAST and FURIOUS made in China. 9 minutes Making Of https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10576/fast-and-furious-made-in-china.-9-minutes-making-of Tue, 10 Jun 2014 07:10:40 +0000 eurocameraman 10576@/talks/discussions STREET OF FURY: I directed, edited and partly shot this 9 minutes Making Of video, a documentary related to a unique and huge project shot in China, near Shanghai, during 4 months. An international team of 300 people was build up around Gary Hymes, the stunt director of famous movie series "Fast and Furious" for shooting a 3D feature film filled up with car and motorcycle chases and crashes.

All team was fantastic and very helpful on the Making Of, with a special thanks to Gary Hymes who is both a great director, a great technician and a very humble person.

This is the first time in China, a project of that kind is produced at such scale. Interesting thing is that all those effort were made for a theme park, not for a theater release.

On a technical point, shots for the making if were done by 3 cameramen (including myself) working with Sony EX1, Canon 5D2, Panasonic AF100 and GH3. We collected more than 20 hours of footage and I had a hard time to choose among all the great stuff we had. Finally, I succeed to compress the best of it into a 9 minutes exciting piece (edited in Premiere CS6). Enjoy!

Panasonic GH2 Hacks good for a Noob https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10356/panasonic-gh2-hacks-good-for-a-noob Sat, 10 May 2014 16:41:21 +0000 GAH80 10356@/talks/discussions Hi There,

I know the GH2 hack topic has been discussed extensively on this forum and thanks to @driftwood for the great work, but as a noob I was hoping someone can help break down some of the benefits of the following Hacks that seem to be very popular. I want to get the best quality video and stills possible without compromising stability.

From my research these seem to be some of the most popular hacks out there: TerraQuake, Mysteron, Sedna, Quantum...

My main reason for purchasing the camera is to shoot a music video in the park. Lots of greens and earthy colors during the daytime. Yet I want to create my own versatile Cam for great video and stills while being stable.

Not sure if any of the patches I mention can produce stunning images and video in this setting. Would that same patch be good for shooting low light indoor settings? Also, maybe a silly question but do these hacks work with video and stills?

Quantum 9b looks like it does great with lowlight:

However I've seen some videos slight glitches in the footage with more movement involved:

Please keep in mind I will be using a 64 GB SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Flash Memory Card 95MB/s.

I found this link very useful, for noobs attempting to hack their GH2: http://www.sam-mallery.com/2011/11/an-ez-guide-to-hacking-the-panasonic-gh2/

I'm looking for experienced filmographers who can direct me accordingly - pros and cons.

Any help would be extremely appreciated and help relief a lot of anxiety accompanying this process ; )

Thank you all!!

Point and Shoot Basic Question https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9327/point-and-shoot-basic-question Sun, 12 Jan 2014 23:30:43 +0000 ragnar 9327@/talks/discussions Is it true that if I zoom in a bit on my point and shoots cams that my images will be a bit sharper? The range of my Canon S110 and S100 are 24mm to 120mm. So would, say 60mm produce a sharper image than either 24mm or 120mm?

Also, do these point and shoot cams also have an F-stop sweet spot like my Lumix 100-300 lens where between f5 or f8 is its sharpest. Is that the same for point and shoots?

The stage of DSLR cameras in the future https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6662/the-stage-of-dslr-cameras-in-the-future Wed, 10 Apr 2013 16:13:48 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 6662@/talks/discussions This thread isnt for talk or praise the quality of the Pocket Camera that are already well known and there are two thread of it, its for analyze and maybe a little speculate because I havent a crystal ball and dont know anyone who works within the industry film or camera makers to speak firmly of things to come.

Some time ago I've been thinking that one day they will see cameras with dreamy benefits available to our pockets and BMC has taken the first big step.

After impact caused by Pocket Camera at NAB seems as if all DSLR cameras literally stay in the past, the film market and videographic intermediate, semi-pro and professional low budget now has a gear of very low cost, then I wonder how that argument would have for example someone who wants today to buy a 5D MKIII about U$3000 for videos and films when for a third of the cost you have a body that offers RAW with 13 EVF of DR. Who less would suffer possibly are cameras under US$1,000 where the user amateur looking a camera for photo and with video to record the dog pacing on the garden, the family eating BBQ, an afternoon at the beach or something without more pretense, but I dont know if that market segment is sufficient for these traditional manufacturers.

I assume that traditional manufacturers must have a headache because they did not expect this movement. Anybody what will buy a camera for video a film low cost will prefer a DSLR digital -regardless the record format- to a camera to record in RAW?

BMC's movement beneficent the market because it will be forced to Sony, Panasonic, Canon and Nikon to compete with similar or better gear features, that or leave the market for inematographers and filmakers low budget because they havent argument to compete equal now.

PS, sorry for my poor english.

Music and Art https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5577/music-and-art Mon, 24 Dec 2012 19:07:23 +0000 DrDave 5577@/talks/discussions For my art and music show, I had been thinking for quite a while now about Robert Altman's use of extended depth of field in his movie "Prairie Home Companion." In his movie, Altman often stops the lens down to capture the ensemble feeling on the stage, sort of the opposite of using shallow DOF to highlight a soloist. So I decided to try and use this effect in the wide angle shots in this video--I used the Panasonic mini-pancake 14mm/2.5 at F4 (more was grainy). Nice to have the whole stage reasonably well in focus. Flowmotion II on lowest setting, as it was a concert and I needed the card space and reliable spanning. Unfortunately the heater blower was on during this winter show, I decided to leave most of the noise in and just roll off some of the rumble.

Greece: Life is a long jump from pussy to the grave https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5528/greece-life-is-a-long-jump-from-pussy-to-the-grave Wed, 19 Dec 2012 11:34:58 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 5528@/talks/discussions

Greece is facing a heating-oil crisis. With an economy that has contracted for five years and an unemployment rate at a record 25 percent, residents in northern Greece can’t heat their homes. Kastoria hasn’t received funds from the central government to warm schools and the mayor said he will close all 53 of them rather than let children freeze, a step already taken in a nearby town. Truckloads of wood are arriving from Bulgaria as families search for alternative fuels.

Via: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-12-18/greeks-can-t-find-euros-to-buy-heating-oil-with-winter-economy.html

Garbage has started mounting up on the streets of Athens and Thessaloniki as a deadlock between municipal workers and the government continues over the latter’s plans to place hundreds of state workers in a redundancy scheme and to introduce a new payroll structure that will see civil service salaries reduced.

Check it our, folks. This guys are slightly ahead in their jump :-)

The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating... ...and you finish off as an orgasm (c) GC

Black line streaks across B&W ISO 12800 footage https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5278/black-line-streaks-across-bw-iso-12800-footage Fri, 23 Nov 2012 00:06:10 +0000 SightfulProd 5278@/talks/discussions I've been working on a project where I'm using the GH2's ISO 12800 setting for its grainy film look. I'm purposely underexposing my footage to give it a more grittier look and what I've noticed when using 1/40, 1/50 or 1/60 shutter speeds, I get a black line that goes across my video.

Watch the video in 1080p to see what I mean, anyone else get this? I'm wondering if it's a sensor problem, I'm using Sedna AQ1 patch.

Glass has no marks, no scratches, no fungus, no dust no cleaning marks, simply clean! Cosmetical it has some wear, some number indicators are slightly marked, but nevertheless this is not a issue, you can still read the f-stops, and meterings.

Adapter to EF mount (EOS) and it's suitable for Fullframe, and all other canon dSLR's, note that this also works on Nikon fullframe, Nex 5,6,7 Gh1,2,3 and ofcourse the soon to come Black magic cinema camera.

Best Black&White (B&W) FIlm mode and setting for straight Black&White work https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4332/best-blackwhite-bw-film-mode-and-setting-for-straight-blackwhite-work Wed, 22 Aug 2012 17:32:33 +0000 mastroiani 4332@/talks/discussions Hello, I'm shooting a short film this Saturday which will be B&W end result. Im wondering if anyone can recommend best settings or film modes or patches for this kind of work. I'm a complete newbies to hacking and right now I'm using FlowMotion V2.02 patch for all around work. I like the idea of having just one patch setting for everything, but not sure what would be best for B&W.

I know that Nostalgic film mode has best dynamic range (from what I've read), but I also read on EOSHD Guide to GH2 that Black and White Smooth Film mode on GH2 is supposed to have the best DR and smoothest gradation out of all film modes. Should I just shoot Black and White Smooth mode straight in the camera or do use another mode and then do B&W in post? How about the best patch?

Any input is appreciated enormously,

Thank you so much.

Tripod adapter that automatically follows with pan and tilt https://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1853/tripod-adapter-that-automatically-follows-with-pan-and-tilt Thu, 29 Dec 2011 05:11:00 +0000 AKED 1853@/talks/discussions
I have a question.

I have come across a product that is quite fascinating.

You can see it here:

The website

http://www.swivl.com/about/

Some videos with and about it

It is a tripod adapter, that has a sender and a receiver.
Where ever the sender moves, the receiver follows.
Panning and tilting.

So if you do not have a cameraman but move in front of the camera, this is ideal.

The problem is, that it omly works with smartphones, preferably IPhones and light point and shoot cameras up to 6 ounces.

So my question is:
Does anybody know of a similar product, that would work with a GH2 ?

Thanks in advance and happy new year.

How important is this war?
Extremely important, because same technique - virtual war, then you never see actual fighters, only actors and free(tm) press, will be used in other countires.
And after this inside developed countries to control large groups who won't be happy with big salary cuts, no pension money and huge food inflation.

Panasonic would never attempt to do what we are doing and yet Vitaliy and Chris have for the most part re-engineered the Stalin GH2 to be vastly superior to a stock model and it still retain all of its reliability.

Great job guys. Please keep it going if at all possible. I know you guys can get the other things(Clean HDMI, B frames for 720p, 25 FPS) to work as well with enough time and effort.]]>
