I have not seen this posted here- so now I will.
There is a free Online Service, that offers to build you a 3d model of something you just orbit around in good lighting with your camera- and send them the file.
they will generate a mesh and a point-cloud to use in any 3d software. I tried it and with some experience it brings nice results! :)
EDIT: Also AutoDesk version of the service: http://www.123dapp.com/
As far as I remember Autodesk have similar free service and it is considered best option.
I heard, but did not try it yet. but will do that now, i hope they have the same great support for GH2's MTS files that my3dscanner has.
EDIT: Just tried it, and it is miles ahead. I would say with my test object and around 45 photos- nearly perfect digital copy of my cute little plastic pig.
