  • One thing here. Price, battery, and Samsung ability to ruin every compact they can build. Oopsy daisy, it is not one thing only.

  • Too bad it isn't a phone, also.

  • We'll need to see actual street price to know reason. Most probably it is done to not accidently affect S3.

  • In my view, Samsung should merge the S3 with this one and position it at the top of their smartphone line, above the S3. The class leading photo capabilities will be hard for Apple to match. This is going to be a "compact" headache for Canon, Pentax, Nikon since they do not have cellular expertise. I say the days of the traditional compact P/S are numbered. And add the Schneider Kreuznach in.

  • This is most definitely a phone.

You can use the 3G data and GrooveIP to a Google Voice number.

There is an internal microphone and speaker, but you can use Bluetooth to a headset. Pity there doesn't appear to be a headset plug, just HDMI and USB. My Galaxy note even connects an HDMI monitor to the USB socket via MHL, and I use Bluetooth for the Keyboard and a Mouse. This appears to have the same capabilities.

This breaks you free of the Wireless Carriers' voice plans. This is going to be a headache for the carriers, accelerating the shift to data.

ps: I use an app called "Camera FV-5" on my Galaxy Note. It save the images in PNG (lossless), and has an excellent buffering pipeline built-in. Makes a huge difference. No more JPG - YEA! I use an app called CameraPro to restart the MP4 video files when the 4GB limit is reached. Except it still has a bug, and you have to restart every 2GB. But the developer has promised to fix it...

  • Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd today launched the Samsung GALAXY Camera (Wi-Fi), the newest addition to the

GALAXY Camera lineup. Like the original GALAXY Camera, the GALAXY Camera (Wi-Fi) combines high performance photographic features with Android™ 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS and dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, making shooting, enjoying, editing and sharing images from a single device easier than ever before.

The GALAXY Camera (Wi-Fi) has all of the innovative and practical features that the GALAXY Camera offers but without a 3G/4G connection. This makes the GALAXY Camera (Wi-Fi) more affordable for a user who does not need the always-connected benefit of the GALAXY Camera. With the GALAXY Camera (Wi-Fi), users can use the dual-band Wi-Fi technology embedded in the device to share photos with family and friends through email, social networks or mobile communication services like Samsung ChatON right from the device, as well as enjoy the luxury of backing-up pictures instantly to cloud services when connected.

  • Small update to February news. Wi-Fi version will cost about $450.

Quite strange assuming $486 3G one price, and it is really significant feature.

  • One area where no current digital camera can match this model is with its 4.8-inch high-resolution touchscreen LCD. No other camera has a screen this large, and no other camera has an interface as easy to use as the Galaxy Camera's Android 4.1 OS, also called Jelly Bean. This type of interface is almost identical to what you'd find on a smartphone, making it very easy to work through the camera's menus. Editor's note: the statements above were written before Samsung's announcement of the Galaxy NX, which also has a 4.8-inch screen and run Jelly Bean.

Samsung did include image stabilization features with this camera, which is important for a model that has a 21x optical zoom lens. Just looking at this camera, you certainly wouldn't expect such a large zoom lens, in part because the camera is pretty thin and in part because the back is designed to look a lot like a smartphone. Because smartphone cameras have very limited zoom options, this 21x zoom is a key aspect of the Galaxy Camera that sets it apart from a smartphone camera.

Also note that camera price dropped to $384 (see link in previous post)

  • Price is really tempting. Wonder if it works with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.lgCamera&hl=de I can record 1080p60 with 100Mbit on my Galaxy S2, quite gradeable. Could make a nice B-cam and double as surfing device.

New Smart Mode Selfie Alarm guarantees that self-portraits receive the attention they deserve.
