DJI Action 5 Pro
  • DJI Action 5 Pro - the GoPoo killer.

The camera brings 'all-new' 1/1.3 CMOS sensor. Precision tracking. 4 hours battery life. DJI MIC 2 connection and Horizonsteady.

GoPoo Hero13 is still at the 1/1.7 inch it seems.

  • The rumoured release date is now early october.

So perhaps a delay for some reason, probably to finalize firmware?

Price is 470 euro for adventure combo.

  • UPDATE: September 19, 2024 | 9 AM (EDT)

  • You will never want a GoPoo ever again.

  • Design wins for the Action 5 Pro includes

    • a new LSI built on a 4 nm node, while the GP2 chip used for the last years in GoPro products is built with a 10 nm node.
    • new improved 1/1.3" image sensor claiming up to 13.5 stop of DR (!?), 40 MP pixel binned to 10 MP (?)
    • new OLED front and rear screens with touch
    • Built in 47 GB storage
    • pressure sensor for depth and heigh measurements
    • built in receiver for two DJI Mic2 transmitters ("Osmo Audio")
  • Unfortunately, the bitrate has dropped massively compared to the OSMO Action 4, which is rather surprising.:

in 4K 4:3 30p mode the Action 5 Pro only shows ~60Mbit/s where the Action 4 shows 130Mbit/s
    in 4K 4:3 60p mode bitrate increases to 80Mbit /s (Action 4 stays at 130 Mbit/s)
    only in 4K 4:3 120p mode the bitrate reaches ~110 Mbit/s

This low bitrate is definitely not enough, as compression artifacts show up in darker sections of foliage and meadows or grassy areas. They become very muddy and lack any detail:

We reached out to DJI, and they were very responsive, but up until now, we haven’t gotten a factual reply on the bitrate other than their intention is to “optimize file sizes.” Hopefully, a future firmware update will resolve this, restoring the 130 Mbit/s bitrate of the previous generation Action 4!

  • DJI has updated the Action 5 firmware with a "high bitrate" option.
