In September 2022, agricultural producer prices were 39.4% higher than in September 2021. In August 2022, the rate of change was +34.5%, in July 2022 - +33.4%. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), prices in September 2022 increased by 2.5% compared to the previous month. At +26.0%, prices for products of plant origin increased less sharply than for products of animal origin (+49.1%) compared to the same month last year. In August 2022, the rate of change was +21.3% for crop products and +44.1% for animal products.
The increase in prices for crop products is associated, among other things, with grain prices. In September 2022, the increase in grain prices amounted to 41.0% compared to the same month of the previous year. In August 2022, the price increase was 39.7%.
Fruit prices fell, while vegetables and potatoes rose
Producer prices for fruits in September 2022 were 4.7% lower than a year ago. Among other things, prices for dessert apples fell by -20.6%.
In terms of vegetables (+22.8% compared to September 2021), the prices of cucumbers (+48.0%), cauliflower (+29.2%) and cabbage (+24.5%) increased especially. The increase in prices for table potatoes in September 2022 compared to the same month last year amounted to +73.0%.
Prices for livestock products increased by 49.1%, for milk - by 57.5%.
Livestock product prices in September 2022 were 49.1% higher than in September 2021. Milk prices in September 2022 were 57.5% higher than in the same month last year; in August 2022, it was +55.9% compared to the previous year. Thus, the increase in milk prices has continued since March 2021 compared to the same month last year. In July 2022, prices increased by more than 50% compared to the same month last year for the first time.
In September 2022, animal product prices increased by 43.0% compared to September 2021. In August 2022, prices increased by 35.5% compared to the same month last year. Prices for slaughter pigs in September 2022 increased by 63.1%. This increase is mainly due to the low supply of pigs ready for slaughter, while demand remained constant. The increase in prices for cattle amounted to 21.1% compared to the same month last year. Poultry prices in September 2022 were 35.5% higher than in September 2021. This was mainly due to the increase in prices for chicken meat (+37.8%).
