The main idea that a person is trying to convey to others is that he has access to much more prestigious consumption than one might think about him. At the same time, he tries to explain to others that their type of consumption is much less prestigious than they were naive to think. All social maneuvers are subordinated to this. Moreover, only these questions evoke persistent emotions in people.
