Shutdown of AT&T’s 3G networkscheduled to happen “by February 2022,” (may be!) according to an AT&T. When the 3G network goes away, AT&T says that phones that don’t support HD Voice, which routes calls over 4G LTE, won’t be able to make voice calls or use data on AT&T.
Shits are sending emails to help Apple and Google a little
Note that shutdown of 2G or 3G networks have no sense (yes, they can say in PR that they "free frequencies" but it is shit) besides greed of this criminals.
T-Mobile will reportedly require phones on its network to support voice over LTE (VoLTE) starting in January 2021. That means if your phone doesn’t currently support VoLTE, you’ll need to upgrade if you want to be able to keep making calls with that phone on T-Mobile. And T-Mobile is apparently so intent on phasing out older technologies that it’ll reportedly stop activating new devices that don’t support VoLTE on August 4th, which is just a couple weeks away.
Rumors in the industry are that movement started quite long time ago after meeting where all major couriers ahd been present and also Apple, Google and few other US only smartphone manufacturers.
Discussion also touched ability to disable all Chinese brands smartphones that have LTE under pretense of security attacks, but this is postponed now, expect some announcement in few months.
